another good thing to check is your cloosed cooling antifreeze,some times a slight leak in the heat exchanger will cause the coolant-antifreeze to be diluted and can be a freeze hazard if not checked

just a little info the merc carriers use concave washers and the stellings carriers use a flat surface,also you will need the correct shim washers to align for input shaft on gimble shaft from drive

another thing to check is alot of boat mfgrs used drainback check valves these are uaually at fuel tank fitting,sometimes they can stick shut and cause a mechanical pump not pull fuel.
