272,

I just got done putting a 440s in my new instrument panel. You should connect the power to a fused or breakered accessory circuit, such as the one your VHF or other instrumentation is on.

Yes, I was the owner of Tabu from 2004-2009. I actually bought it for the purpose of putting the diesel in, and got it to run about 55 mph with it. I gave it up due to lack of intercooling capacity...

Prop Prices

I just picked up and old Cigarette Mistress with SSMIII's, and have been doing similar legwork. If you are content with three blade props, you can have a pair for of lower pitch models for 1200 or...

Blower Hatch/Scoop Height

Hi,

Could anyone who happens to be out working on their rig today, and has a 8 or 14-71 blower and intercooler setup pull a measurement from crank centerline to the top of the flame arrestor?

I appreciate it. I've ordered a bunch of parts from you, but couldn't find this one.

Found Themm

Disregard, they are available at www.crowleymarine.com. BAM doesn't seem to stock them, and the only hoses available at places like Hardin or KE are the internal hose runs.

Where to get K-Plan External Hoses?

Hi,

Does anyone know off the top of their head who might have replacement external braided hoses for the K-Plane rams? I could just go to my local fluid connector shop, but I'd like to find one...

Re: center of gravity-triple o/b's

If your boat handles okay initially, then you want to keep the longitudinal center of gravity position (LCG) the same through any modifications. You can account for everything in the planning stages,...

Re: Trim Tab Drag

Don't forget that there is a significant amount of wave rise, depending on the trim angle of the boat, and the speed. I've generally seen K-planes mounted at 1" above the running surface, and they...

Re: Prop Ideas

I agree wholeheartedly with Throttleup on the idea that it would be very difficult to get 600 hp at only 5100 rpm from N/A 496. That's why I specified a 5400 RPM power peak, and Supercharging in my...

Re: Prop Ideas

Yes, you should be perfect with labbed 34's and 5100 RPM. Here's the prediction with those and the stock B1 gearcases: Slip numbers are up a little higher than I'd like, but you should gain 3 or so...

Re: Prop Ideas

Here is what I got for a first cut on your boat, guessing at the pertinent information:

Re: need for speed

In my experience, and based on rough computations, a properly running 20-footer with 260 hp should reach slightly over 50 mph.

In order to make a more accurate assessment of your situation,...

Re: Bravos & nosecones

At the speeds everyone is talking about in this thread, you should already have full external steering, but if not, DEFINITELY do not do a nose cone without it. The cone shifts the center of pressure...

Re: GPS Question

Without knowing too much about the boat, here is what the performance of a boat such as this should be:

Manufacturer: Cigarette

Model: Top Gun

Length: 38 ft

Beam: 8 ft 6 in

Re: looking for a set of BBc medium performance exhaust headers

I have had excellent results so far with my Revolution Marine manifolds. I have heard some people complain about corrosion problems. I run in brackish water mostly, and flush religiously within...

Re: trim tab question

Yes, like ZT260 says, they are normally mounted 1" above the running surface, and can retract to 3-4 degrees above parallel. On some boats, however, including several Fountain models, the boats are...

Re: Trim Tab Size Question

The longer tabs will help you in rough water, and will appear to respond quicker due to immersing the tip at a lower angle of attack. Due to its lower aspect ratio, the longer tab is actually a less...

Re: How fast should my fountain go?

When you go to the lake, it's usually the elevation that gets you, not the water. While the hull does produce slightly less lift due to the decreased water density, the prop also gets a little less...

Re: What happens when Rev limiter kicks in?????

Some rev limiter software is more advanced than simply cutting spark at a predetermined value. My EFI system cuts off fuel instead at a user-determined value, and then only re-activates the injectors...
