Just because it is a cat style hull do not assume it will be a cat ride. Some are really not in the same league compared to the well known hulls in ride and resale value.
With older smaller hulls...

I use Brad Penn 50W. Your friend who looks at diesel Cat engines may not be qualified giving advise about gas racing engines. Change your oil every five hours on a big blower engine.

Use at least -8. I have been inspected by the Coast Gaurd often and the braided lines were not an issue. Flares, jackets and fire exting are high on their list.
