I’ll be rigging soon and thought I’d check with others to see if anyone is running the stat oil coolers (engine oil). Any disadvantages at all. Thought I’d ask before plumbing.

Because I don't run water thermostats, I do run oil ones. I have the Harden/CP performance ones. They work good. We also use our oil to cool valve springs and pistons, so we have pretty big coolers. When running oil will go upto 250 for about 45 seconds then settle in at 215-220. Our water temperature never exceeds 110.

I ran the 1000hp versions on my 490ci whipple supercharged engines,,120° stats, cross overs and oil always came up to 200° and no condensation in valve covers.one thing you do have to do is get the in and out right,I've seen customers plumb them wrong and have oil temp problems.

I have the CP Performance cooler with the power steering cooler. It also has the thermostat on top of the cooler. The thermostat is rated at 215*. They say they will support 700 hp but on a long run my temp will rise a little above 260. I guess what I am getting at if you run a thermostat i would over size the cooler.

Tks. Hey while on the (oil) subject are the stock remote filter housings oil passages down sized from aftermarket? I don’t have two in front of me to compare. Seems like I recall some guys just hogging them out to increase volume etc. Engines are 565 750’s.
I guess the question I should’ve asked is if the aftermarket ones are opened up more than that of stock.
