I heard the same thing ! It's going to take some serious rain to get the lake level back to full once they are finished with the 35bridges ! Not for water recreation, what rubbish, that lake generates a lot of money for the city's that surround it !!

That sucks! Most of the lakes around here are doing well with all the rain we've been getting! Hopefully the tropical storm in the next week or two will give us a little more!

I have lived in the DFW Texas area for over 30 years now, My wife has been here 5 years coming from Colorado. Colorado has just as long as a boating season as Dallas / Ft. Worth if not longer. The lakes here suck in the North and West Texas areas. They are super low, dirty, stumpy and no trees or mountains. If the water levels were great Austin is good area. Lake Texoma and PK IMO are the only 2 lakes worth your time in North Texas when they have water. Very little sportboat action on the area lakes, its mainly a ton of wakeboard boats these days and pontoons. No area poker runs either. Anyways my jist of it. If you really are into boating and its your number 1 goal, North Texas is not the place for you. The traffic sucks as well towing a boat around to different lakes. Many pricks on the road, plus texting all the damn time.

Haha- Dallas is awesome ! When the water is low there is always the two wheel entertainment - lots of nice country roads to go play on - and of coarse hunting and fishing !!

Have you seen Lake Texoma as well. Very low.

I was on Texoma last month, low for Texoma but still plenty of big water, rather be on Texoma than anywhere else these days.

Thanks for the input. Not sure what lake in Colorado your wife is referring to though, they all freeze solid and are cold as chit except for July and August. Some of the big lakes in the south might not totally freeze, but the elevation is 6-8000 feet, not really great for engine performance. Most people dont realize that boating at 5,000 feet takes a HUGE toll on power and top speed. About 10 mph and double the time to plane. Though it's true the sun shines alot and the snow melts fast, winter is a high of 20-40, and a low of -10 to 10 and it takes a long time to hit that 30 degrees for only 1 hour. I don't know if we will settle on Tx or not, but somewhere warmER with lots of water options is what we are after. Oh yeah, every single lake in Colorado has a 40mph speed limit

Colorado IMO has small lakes also like N & W Texas - been to Pueblo Res myself. IMO Lake Havasu, Lake Powell, LOTO, Lake Tahoe, Lake George NY, Lake Lanier GA to name a few along with west & east coast Florida is better than any lake here.

I have been on over a 100 lakes in US plus boated on both coasts. Grew up on the water in Upstate NY, parents also snow birds Melbourne Beach Fl with a second hm.

I do like PK and Texoma here, the rest of the lakes are ponds here. Houston and South of have a lot boating in which has a lot more High performance stuff as well. Austin is a great boating area if it had good water levels.

I tried to open a small boat shop up on the south end of Lake Travis back in 2010 but the area dried up with very low water levels in 8 months so I pulled the plug on that. The drought here has hurt a lot of boating more so the Ft Worth area and west of.

Boating here was done after the first week of Sept as well for 2013. This year most people started out first week of May. The recent rains helped out a bit for the month of May.

I bet by mid August when the kids go back to school most people will not boat, the lake levels will be really bad if the rain does not happen as maybe they will not have a choice. With only 3.5 months of boating or maybe less because of drought and 2.5 months of that is a fire pit with the summer heat and very warm lake water. IMO that makes for a poor boating area especially in the deep south for such a short season. Anyways just making my point.

I agree with you on all points, I lived in Parker AZ for 4years, and in Havasu for two when I was younger - love the Colorado river and the boat show at Havasu you get to see every weekend. The rest of my life on lake pleasant in Phoenix. The lakes here fluctuate way to much and there is no scenery except for million dollar homes. I live about 2minutes from the boat ramp onto lewisville so it's to convient for me not to spend most of my time there, ye there are lots of wake boarding boats but they normally all hang out in the same area not in the deeper rougher water. Its the jet skiers that are everywhere and you have to keep a close eye on them darting in front of you or jumping your wake. I think every lake or body of water has its pros and cons - I've learned to except where I boat and feel blessed just to own one !

Plus it's nice to see a lot of your buddy's out on the water doing the same.

Yeah I don't know what your wife is thinking either. I was born and raised in Colorado, you couldn't drag me back there kicking and screaming because the boat season sucks. It's a few months long at best. Plus everything High&Dry said. Small lakes, speed limits and lots of cold weather. Screw that.
