This is a better pic. I've located 2 from Jaco Marine. Someone in this thread told me about it and they truly are the cheapest engine dealer I think in the country. Don't know who's rigging it yet.
|
noli, did you buy the Mercs ??
|
not yet. I'm stuck and can't decide between hi-octane[300XS/350Sci] engines and 87 octane engines.
If I go to a distant port or marina, I won't be guaranteed the availability of hi-octane fuels. The 34 is being fitted now on a Nextrail trailer over at the factory. I saw this trailer being used for the jet boat. This trailer looks promising [crossing my fingers right now ]. Never really used anything other than the tried and true EZLoader trailers. We'll just have to see. What do you think about my fuel-octane dilema? |
Talk to the Merc. Rep. ask if you can put a couple bottles of 104 Octane Booster in the tank if you can only get 87 at some boat docks. Get those motors so you can do some 2009 boating !!!:grinser010:
|
noli, any updates ?? are you going to splash in 2009 ??
|
Sorry I haven't been able to update you guys. The 34 is now on top of my trailer, a NEXTTRAIL trailer. Had them deliver it at the end of March. At first I was gonna bash NEXTTRAIL cause I thought the trailer would be tough to adjust to try to fit a stepped bottom boat. I was wrong[plus there is no bashing at OSO]. The trailer has so many possible adjustments that one can do, that the trailer turned out to be a nice fit for the 34.
Work done on the trailer so far were: * turn the timber upside down to use the flat side and not the beveled side * cut the timber to match the step * move the winch stand forward to allow for the 34 to be moved forward * staple on the custom cut timber carpeting * remove the vertical boat guides * fabricate a wider base stand for the winch post to allow for moving the winch futher forward. I also thought that the boat would sit high on the trailer since the axles were not bent as are common on boat trailers and the timbers were set to its maximum height...but after allof the adjustments, the 34 sits nice and low. Many thanks to Rick, as he was instrumental in getting this custom work done. I will have pics of the rig by the weekend!!! Oh, to answer your question: no the 34 will not splash in '09. Pray with me that it happens in 2010 :) For the remainder of '09...the 34 will be cleaned, shrink-wrapped and stored for the winter... noli |

here are some pics of the 34 on a trailer:

rick,
the weight distribution is favored on the bow which gave me plenty of tongue weight...was doing 83 mph on the NJ Tpke...no problems[this is probably the fastest this boat will ever go...buhahahaha....nah]. The addition of the motors and fuel should add more weight to the rear thus altering the CG[center of gravity]...hopefully not too much change in CG to allow me to trailer with no fish-tailing. The winch stand base is all custom work by Rick [last pic in the set]. I ordered the shrink wrap as no one stocks this item in July :( |

noli, where in NJ do you live ???
|
In Princeton area. I know, it's very claustrophobic here being that I'm 1 hour from the ocean :(
noli |
Noli- you still going with the twin 350's?
|
Sadly, I'll be going with twin 250s. The reason being that when I do my travels, the marinas may not carry 91 octane fuels...so I need engines that can run on 87 octane. And that could be 250XS. But with SmartCraft. So that if the next owner wants Verado...it would only be engine swaps...the rest of the hardware will work.
|
remember...I want to go for maximum MPG, and not MPH
to maximize the distance travelled per gallon per trip :) I would be happy at running 25MPH if I was getting 3MPG. |

In this thread I did say that I boat out of LI using my dad's Grady White boat and recently his Wellcraft center console. My dad lives in Smithtown. But I live in NJ. Hopefully the 34 completes its rigging over the winter and in the spring I will be testing the 34 for longer runs to Virgina beach starting from Barnegat Bay. The first leg of my travels will be to Newfoundland. Hopefully by this first leg I would have some solid engine tests with rerproducible mpg vs. mph vs rpm numbers.
If the MPG does not meet my requirements, then I will just do island hopping from country to country starting from the Bahamas and go South to Chile via the Panama Canal. Big dreams and small wallets really don't mix all too well :) |
where are you getting her rigged ???
|
back to the Superboat factory...hopefully JC will do it :)
The engines and the hardware will be at JC by mid October as the engines take 2 weeks to deliver. The engine deal will be finalized end of next week. We'll see how the Verado 250s MPG works out...well I hope :) |

I'm not in a rush. I want the job done right and JC takes his time to do it right. Plus he knows the boat inside-out. I've seen JC complete the rigging on the test boat that went around Long Island rather quickly. Plus he's got the winter to rig the 34...how long could this take?

Anyone hangin' out at the NJ Offshore Powerboat races tomorrow? I was there today to see the practice runs...was chattin' with JC Jr. Nice guy. Pleasant to talk to. We were by the OUTRAGEOUS racing team areas. The racing starts tomorrow at 12 Noon. The best view of the race would be by the Manasquan River inlet beach area. |

Dropped off the 34 at Ocean Outboard today. I decided to go with Tony Caligure.
Drew, the re-power specialist, gave me an offer I could not refuse. Actually I could've refused it, but the deal was sooo right for me and since the rigging is soo overdue went with it. They have attractive winter deals going on now :) Steve, the head mechanic went over the whole job with me. Nice guy. I'll send pics of the rigging as soon as I can get 'em. Power = 2 x 250HP Verados |

Noli, glad to see your project coming together !!! Do you think you will have an 2009 splash ???:grinser010:
|
Yes!!! the 34 will definitely splash this year, around Oct/Nov time frame. Steve will be doing system and prop testing. The deal will close in the winter sometime and the planned delivery date is sometime in end of January 2010 :)
