It honestly all comes down to how much money you are willing to spend. Insurance as mentioned before, for someone who hasnt owned a cat, could be double or triple. I had a 35 Motion cat and on rough days in the sound was not so fun. On the calm days it was great and alot of fun. I wouldnt buy another cat unless it was 40+ft for rough water even at that a 40 is small.

stormrider: the activator looks interesting but the drives, aren't they a bit weak for the power on them? The 37 outer limits is a bit gaudy for my taste and doesn't offer much protection from the elements.

Good point. I was thinking 40-44' on the cat... on a V maybe 38+

My buddy looked at that Activator and passed. I've run with Wild Child and its a good running boat.

Rbarna- you looking for 'creature comforts' like usable cabin, etc, or is just reliability/good speed the big concern?

If you arent looking to get to insane about overnighting, and its more of a water taxi type thing, then a bigger CC with twin/tripples sounds about right. In that 30+ range many have small usable cuddy cabins....intrepid, deep impact, regulator...I looked at a bunch of them before I bought mine and all had some good products. If you want the bigger/slightly more usable cabin, etc, then you might want to look at a hustler/cigarette type boat....tons of them out there for sale right now, and twin 525's would make either run decent and be pretty reliable

A 44+ sized cat would be sweet, but just wondering if you would get the engine reliability you want, as I assume you would need some pretty hefty HP to make it run right

I wonder if you couldnt convert your Y2k to a twin outboard set up. Fill in the sterdrive hole, take off the swim platform, modify the back a little....sounds like a good project for Rick :)

I would go with a bigger boat,I had a Y2K the one that Dave built from MGD was a lot of fun and as I here still running great, miss that boat. But I bought a 39 Nor-Tech and its a big diffrence in the rough stuff. Take a look at the Nor-Tech and Statement builds some BadAzz boats they have some nice CC
that are being built.

The Y2K feels awful small when LI Sound isn't flat.... I think I need to be >38' on the V and >42' on the Cat.
