help decide...

Looks like I might be doing a lot more NYC->Montauk (120mi) trips next season. In my Y2K I'm concerned about it being too small for LI Sound travel on rough days and being a bit slow (496HO) and also having only one engine reliability.

Need input on what to do...

Options:

1) Sell the Y2K, buy a CC >30' with 2-3 optis or verados
2) Sell the Y2K, buy a >40' cat (MTI or Skater) and get there way faster
3) Keep the Y2K and do any of:
a: upgrade power
b: nothing
c: something you come up with

Thanks!

My vote-#3b... run it. That 496 is a reliable motor, imo.

OR #3a- Add a procharger to the mix with low boost (3.5psi) and I think it'd be plenty fast and remain reliable (if you feel like you must have more speed). I know most guys will take a chit on a procharged 496 with the cast internals, but I have seen enough proof of reliability to believe its a safe, reliable setup.. also, there is always the Raylar kits for it if you want to remain n/a. Or you could drop in different power all together..

I'm not a cat guy (love v-bottoms)... but might want to investigate insurance costs before you pull the trigger on a cat.

Insurance costs aren't really a factor that matters to me.

Important things are in order:

1) Safety (at speed and on long trips)
2) Reliability
3) Speed and not getting beat up at speed (70-100 would be great)
4) Easy to singlehand

Has to run on regular pump gas and have a 200+ mi range.

Cat is the only thing that fits most of your requirements.

Vee bottoms can fill all of his criteria. I've boated in LI sound my whole life. Buy a bigger vee bottom or very large cat.

Very true, but he only mentioned a cc as the other v option.. I know there are big cc's out there, but have no clue about how fast they run or handle the rough. I do know they'd be alot better around the dock vs a canopied cat singlehanded.

I guess bigger V is an option...
