I like everything about this! Congrats!

Hey Gary,
Any updates? Are you getting ready to splash? |
Hi Dave! After we ran it I brought it back to the shop where we found the portside Zeiger steering ram leaking. Pretty unusual but nonetheless send it back for a rebuild. We really haven’t done anything in addition at this point. John’s been working on a 24 cc that he had sold as well as a 21 he’s had, which he has also sold.
l Happened to speak to John today(I bug him weekly!) and he’s been in touch with the new gentleman who took over running the prop department at mercury racing as of January. After discussing our quick run with 2 sets of props, John and his consensus was to try a set a 29 pitch five blades which should be on there way shortly! One of John’s customer who has a 30 cc with 300’s has offered us the opportunity to try his props as well. Oh! I did actually get the boat registered last Friday finally with Connecticut DMV. That took forever to get an appointment. also been working on some graphics finally came up with a name.... Was considering Back in Black 2 Superstitious but went with ..... “HELLS BELLS”. A little play on my last name and my love for AC/DC. |

Same font that I had used on Superstitious. |
Hmmmmm.....
Bon’s soul hooked me in! Brian gets me all wound up!! |
Link seems like a fitting addition on a Sunday Morning... great name/ play on words..

Well it’s been a while! Having getting pelted by the rain last December when we first splashed, I did some pondering. I decided to make a eisenglass enclosure. I think it came out pretty sweet with all the contours thanks again to P&G canvas who constantly exceed my expectations! May look a tad goofy to some, but when you want to be out of the elements, I will be grinning ear to ear😊

Wind tunnel tested to 100+ miles an hour🤪
I could only hope. 🤞 |
They all roll up in bags neatly for storage. My OCD issues.

I like it! Since going to a CC I gained an appreciation for shade.
|
Thanks Dave!
I have to give credit to twin o/b sonic. The checkmate he picked up for his wife with the full canvas kind of got me thinking as well. Today I decided to add one more modification to the back. Adding a zipper to the back of the Bimini and running a flat stretch of canvas down at a 45* angle to the rear cleats. I didn’t want to enclose the entire back. Pictures to follow. |

In an effort to come up with bit more of shade, weather protection, and privacy when needed with a minimalistic approach I came up with this idea. Kind of like a Jeep bikini top, or what I’ve seen on the back of some sport fisherman https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b123908a6.jpeg Open and airy. I can still open the rear hatch. For sh!tz and giggles I could detach the back, and drop inside the forward opening hatch, and close the hatch for more of a full inclosure. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0cc026fca.jpeg Rolls up snugly at the back of Bimini with a pair of (inward direction)zippers. Can be removed but with leaving it attached it still fits on Bimini boot. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...459a1c103.jpeg Lots of strap length if I want to raise the hatch significantly and use the hatch to elevate the rear of the canvas. |
It’s tough to come up with a canvas design that looks good on a performance boat, but your minimalist approach does the trick. Nice job!

Thank you Reynard!
Now back to John to finish up replacing a leaky steering ram and a few odd and ends. We finally received the set of Mercury racing Max5st 29 pitch props and can’t wait to test them!! |
|
Very well appointed Y2K and those outboards say care free boating over the I/O alternative .
The sticker on the rear hatch , is it a certain size or just ask for the large one ? My 34 is going back to original white gelcoat ( painfully ) and I would really like to go with something like this . |
Did it thru my local Signarama as the guy JC was using went MIA since COVID. Googled Superboat logo and did my own layout/rendition and printed on 3m reflective. The material is quite substantial. They can print whatever size you’d want pretty much. They did several different sizes for me as well. JC has since come up with a graphics guy I believe.

Any updates?

Yes! So we’ve been out a couple times. Ran the herring 33p which is 14 3/4 dia. not 15 as I initially thought. Also ran the max5 29-15 1/4. Maxing out rpm’s at 5700-5750 regardless of props. We also raised the motors up all the way(another 2 holes gaining a couple inches) Somethings wrong. Scanned the motors and was only getting 85% throttle. We’re running cables not DTS. Had to re-engineer the livorsi levers to get additional travel in cables and got that solved. Only had the max5 to try after. Now we’re all over the rev limiter running running mid 80. Plenty of water pressure. John spoke with mercury racing, they said next move is to try 31 pitch as we were told the 29 or 30 are basically the same prop different cup. I would have loved to try the herring’s again but weren’t available. I finally took delivery last week as I took a weeks vacation. Unfortunately the weather sucked. Between the weather and some home projects(you never get to when working) and going thru the boat, I got “0” boating in. Also trying to sort out the functionality of the Simrad screens and smart craft which takes a bit of learning. I also missed out on indoor rack storage at Rex in Norwalk as they’re sold out. So much for dragging my feet :-( Regardless hope to get the props soon and get out on the water. Planning another week vacation in August. To be continued…That about covers it. 👍

Had a chance to get out and enjoy a beautiful day last week with my wife, she really appreciated the bimini after all afternoon on the water. And no! I did not add a mast!!! Thanks Jerrybondo for the pics! |
So how does it run compared to an I/O boat?
|
To tell the truth, I’ve been out only a few times with my wife and haven’t pressed it. Still getting a feel of how it behaves without pissing off my wife😉. Running a full Tank of gas, 130 gallons down to nothing and playing with the 42 gallon ballast tank certainly changes the boats attitude. Bone dry she’s light up front for sure. This boat requires a bit of tab I find to run slow on plane as there is a slight hop, possibly induced by the forward step (which is further forward on this boat compared to the old). I tend to keep the motors trimmed down. As speed increases running tabs parallel seemed to work well running to around 45-50. From there tab up and trim motors up a touch and she REALLY motivates! Very impressive acceleration! The boat seems to turn and track well when you crank the steering at speed. I’d say this boat requires more attention/feel to be driven than my old I/o. To be fair, I have not had a lot of seat time
The boat is back at superboat chasing gremlins with a punch list of things to do, including the jack plate indicator which hadn't worked since I picked it up(bad gauge), port tab and port motor trim quit working, and my ballast tank discharge pump stopped working. Throttle cable slack adjustment and other bs. Hopefully to be sorted out in short order 🤞. I’m still waiting for my ordered props to show up. |
Any update on this?

Is the boat all dialed in now?

hope so too, been radio silent for 2.5 years almost
|
Mite have been just too much to handle. I know when I was younger 80 plus seemed very slow but as I aged 80 works out just fine and actually a bit boring in a 30. Again just a guess
|
dropped the price 20k already

Good boats!

I enjoyed reviewing this thread. All the passion and attention to detail have been inspiring. Delays in the build/ getting parts, getting the engines just before covid hit, working through the bumps in the road, documenting it so well, a sudden silence and now she is for sale. It is a bit eerie. I saw she was just listed on fb marketplace yesterday which brought me here. Can't post the URL, still a newbie.

Price drop to 155K (on S&F). I really don’t know the market and prices well but I’m guessing that is very realistic. The boat appears to be beautifully set up, should make someone very happy.
I hope all is well with the seller. :) RR |
Outboards are not for everyone. Some still like the old school rumble of an inboard. Only a guess.
