I haven’t posted in a while, and there hasn’t been much to look at as the rigging process has been a slow tedious process. First the port engine was hung and rigged while leaving the starboard engine off for ease or access. I can’t fathom the complexity of having to rig up to six of these bad boys that being installed on some boats and where to mount everything. Ending up mounting some of electronics/ interfaces on the inside cabin wall And creating a cabinet to house them as there isn’t enough space behind the dash. No photos of that as that’s still a work in progress.

Also finally received the marine mat snap-in flooring for the cabin and stern compartment. Between company closure during Covid and a mixup ( I received the 4mm stick down product when 9mm snap-in was specified), it took 6 months to get. Argh!!! I’ve also been working on some simple Superboat graphics that turned out not so simple and took a month to complete. I brought them with me to Superboat land but didn’t get a chance to install unfortunately.

Went to superboat today, here are some updates! The boat is back on the trailer!! But prior to, John weighed the boat. The rigged, dry weight was 4790 lbs. That was without the seats.

Inside looking out. Built a box to conceal all the enormous amount if electronics associated with the new motors. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...55b3c4cbe.jpeg Checking fitment prior to hinge install https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...609c27dc4.jpeg Cranking away back and forth to bleed the steering |
Looks great! What is that fitting on the motors right above where the lowers bolt on?

Sweet ride...

That’s where you drain the oil

Very nice Gary. Going to be worth the wait. Nothing around like it.

Thanks Cary!
We’ve been contemplating props for a while now. John has always had good luck on his 30 Y2K’s both IO and outboard with the bravo props, which John feels is a good go to for a (affordable) base line and I concur. Crunching some #’s with mercury our starting point will be a set of 32 pitch 4 blades. We’ll be spinning them out. I would love to try a set of Max 5 ST’s. Through John’s networking we may have a set of hill 5 blade 32’s to try, but timing is everything, and not sure exactly what they are or if they’ll be available when the tine comes. I have also been so enamored with the Outerlimits SV 29 w/twin 300’s build for many reasons . Such a sweet build undeniably. From what I’ve seen thanks to Noli’s posts, they currently have the boat set up with the props “spinning in”with 5 blades. I hinted that I was curious as to what they were running, including gear ratio but didn’t get a response, and at this point so I’m not sure it’s even public knowledge or even relevant to be honest. More curiosity than anything I guess I could call Dan Kleitz but not sure how forthcoming he’d be. The saga continues....👍 |
What’s the reasoning behind spinning out
|
Theories are, better dockside maneuverability with engines being quite close, less stern lift, better prop bite. All subject to individual application, past experience, trial and error, results and of course individual preference.
|
Gary, I have met and spoke with Dan a few times. Great guy, he'll talk to you about it. I actually have 4bl Bravo's on my 300s now waiting for Chad Hill to build me a set of his new 4s or even the new thru hub 5s. Can't use over the hub wheels with the big lowers... won't plane. Ran a set of his Stock sl5s too big and went faster with the Bravo's. The bravo props are the cheapest best starting point for data....

Well we are making progress! Front seats are in and rear power hatch installed. Now off to P&G Canvas for black sumbrella supreme cockpit cover and a black stamoid transport cover!

Looking great! Any idea what the all up zero fuel weight will be?
|
Rigged it weighed in at 4790 without the seats. Call it 5000 or just under.
|
Looks great.
|
Any chance she'll see the water before freeze-up?

Getting real close! Out getting cockpit cover done and Bimini fitted last week and should be buttoning up the the full cover This week. Which worked out well with last weeks crappy Cold, rainy, windy weather. Have a pair of 32p bravos from mercury to try. One arrived waiting on the second prop. Seems with a warm stretch of weather we’re having, nows the time!!!

Looks Awesome Gary. Very nice fitment... |
Thanks Cary! You have to remember I don't have as a sweet dedicated parking garage as you! ;-} Perhaps one day, but in the meantime I got it covered!
Meanwhile back to Superboat to finish up all the miscellaneous stuff and Screen setup for the Simrad displays and marry to the different sending units. |
That cover is just fabulous as well as everything on the boat. Congrats. Did you ever consider an integrated engine cover that maybe could use a zipper to the main cover at the motor splash well?
Something to prevent water, leaves and dirt trashing that area. |
I like your thinking......
I did pick up a set of mercury fitted engine covers that cover the cowl down to the s/s steering rams directly from mercury on sale this spring. They are even designed and vented so they could be left on while running. My intent at some point is to have P&G make one cover for both motors. Perhaps zipped together as you suggested👍 I wasn’t sure how far down the motors I wanted to cover at this point, as well I did not have ones I purchased down there at the time for proper figment. My plan is to get it back there when Phil and I have more time to finish it up. Thank you! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3e2bcec39.jpeg |
P&G great work did my Fountain way back!

Update;
We're still trying to bleed air out of the steering system argh!. Getting the tabs to register on the simrad screen has been a challenge, it now seems to be an issue with the interface box I'd guess you'd call it, so were waiting on a replacement. We filled the ballast tank and determined it holds 42 gallons of water (350 lbs.) in the nose and working on the guage to get that to read onscreen. The second prop arrived, and the back seat is in! Sure feels like winter today but there's a stretch of warmer weather comming this weekend and early next week. perhaps........ :boat: |
Looking great as usual Super. I'm excited to hear about the first splash. I have seen some nice zip on full engine covers that cover the drives to the cowls and everything in-between on some DW cats. I'm sure they are costly but can be copied. For the investment you have made into this work of art it would be sound security.

Just total Badass! Can’t wait to see it running on YouTube lol
|
.
Will your SB be seeing some South Florida water over the winter? . |
Well no YouTube video but we did manage to splash it today!! John and John jr. had a chance this morning and ran a set of bravo 32’s prior to my arrival. They felt it was a bit squirrelly. By the time I arrived they came up with a set of 33p 5 blades 15” dia. exhaust thru hub to try. By this time it was raining pretty hard. We did one pass across the bay, rain felt like bullets, my head still tingles. We had it running 80. Had trouble getting out of the hole with that prop but jr. said boat handled much better. Weren’t using any tab. May need to raise the the motors, as it’s set up with the jack plate all the way up the the bullet is about even with the bottom. Bottom line couldn’t see with the rain and didn’t have a chance to play around. Never came off plane or had a chance to mess with tabs, trim, or height. Ultimately need to put some thought as to our next move and get some more props to test.

Love it’s ‘stance’ in the water. Little bit of bow up/stern down, looks very fast and ready to blast out of the hole.
Beautiful boat. RR |
Im totally in love with your boat. I have to agree with rak rua. I love the stance.

I’d love to get my hands on a set of 30 or 31p max5 ST’s to try. John Jr said a bud may have a go pro we can set up and eyeball what’s going on back there to check on drive height at speed. The 5 blades were blowing out and had to chop the throttles back and feather to get on plane, I’m sure using tabs would have helped. John Sr. thinks over hub exhaust style prop with bigger blade area might help but my concern would be over aerating the props. Lots of theory’s bouncing around. Sorry for the double post. Never tried a multi quote post before. Thanks guys! |

Looks incredible Gary. Enjoy dialing it in. Worst is behind you... Have a great Christmas. God bless you and your family. |
Hay Cary! Thank you and thanks for checking in!
I hope you and your family have a joyous Christmas and a healthy, happy new year! I patiently await getting back on the water to sort things out. |
