Update!
With a confirmation call to Mercury, J.C. confirms that the motors will be here before month end! :evilb: In the meantime the transom bracket, Bobs Doublejack, and water pickup has been installed for the forward ballast tank. As luck would have it, an opportunity arrose to send my trailer back to Rolls Axel in Florida to shorten the tongue on my trailer "Loraina Bobbett style" as it was just overall too long. A friend of a friend was headed to Tampa to visit family over the holidays offered to drag my trailer down and back! Perfect timing and that all worked out perfectly. Seats have been set out to Darrell at Unique Upholstery. Things are once again starting to move along, great news indeed! |

For peace of mind, I did call J. C. back to go over engine specs/details, glad I did, as the motors ordered were coming with the 1.60 gear ratio. NOT what we spec'ed out, as we want the 1.75's. Glad we checked. but once again this may push delivery back a bit....ARGHHHH... |

At least my trailer won’t be sticking out my driveway into the road. Tongue was shortened 3 feet.

Looking real sharp.

It’s a Date!!!
J.C. Heard from Mercury and Around Feb. 13th we should have motors!! A great Valentines gift!:bananalove:
A pair of 300’s!!! |
I need to get a long NY layover and ride the train out to Lindenhurst. Love to check out their shop.
|
Mercury Marine has requested payment prior to shipping, which has been sent last week. Any day now for the motors to arrive, fingers crossed🤞
|
Wouldn't you know it.... Motors arrived! That's the good news... The bad news, one came damaged and after an on the spot call to Mercury, it had to be refused as per their request. The metal cage was bent and the wrapping was torn. Upon further inspection the mid-section seems to have been scraped/skewered. Quite disappointed to say the least. Though Mercury did commit to a fast resolution, who knows what the time frame is... Frustrating to say the least.... But patience is a virtue and I hope to get it resolved in short order.

Seats are ready for pickup!

They look very nice, are they exposed backs or completely covered?
|
Thank you! I was debating it a bit prior, but I chose to leave the backs of the buckets (white gel) exposed, I always seem to gravitate to the old school look.
|
Looks awesome Gary. Sharp and functional. Up to date and simple. I love what you do with it... Couldn't get any better...
|
Thanks Cary. Getting quite anxious to get the rigging done. Mercury did receive the motor back and promised a quick turn around. Not sure what that entails.
|
Stopped by Superboat today. The replacement motor motor arrived yesterday and again this one came damaged as well. What the f#@k!!! This time just the cowl. After another call to Mercury, we kept it and they’ll send a replacement cowl.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...078f03aed.jpeg Other than a thin cloth type wrap around the motor itself and a thin plastic outer wrapping over the cage there’s nothing of any substance to protect the motor in shipping. Looks as though something shifted in transport and poked thru. You would think there’d be something like a wire cage or plywood surround to protect these jewels in transport at these prices. |
ouch.... better luck has to be coming your way!
|
Yes absolutely right. In the meantime the rigging is progressing and hope to start hanging the motors next week. These motors didn’t come with trim pumps in the bracket instead pumps need to be mounted in the boat. JC is in the process of mounting all 5 pumps! I did meet with Phil from P&G Canvas going over the Bimini as I had on my old one. They do come in handy, Certainly with an Irish heritage wife. She can’t seem to take prolonged exposure to direct sun, everything‘s fine for a while then she turns flush/heat stroke and the parties pretty much over. With a little engineering I make the Bimini narrow enough and then able to store it under the rear hatch and slip the legs forward between the cockpit liner and the hull side. Worked like a charm on my last boat. Once we get a little further along on the interior I’ll get the cockpit cover and stamoid full cover done

Much respect to Mr. Coen.

Looks great Gary! You must be excited. Every time I see a Superboat I have a little regret for selling Superstitious.

looking great! will we see that beast ripping along the Long Island .[/ Absolutely!!! Normally I always trailer. This year I may rack store it inside at Rex marine Norwalk and run out of there. A local buddy who has a 27 Progression is persuading me to join him there and that sounds appealing. In the past though I would often take a week off in summer and drag it out to the hamptons. I also tow to Old Saybrook or even Newburg NY as the tow isn’t that much different. |

Regrets, Me too Dave, I’ve been boatless far to long. Funny Dave, I have been surfing thru mine and your thread pictures today going over some of the anchor points for the Bimini that you had a good photo angle of, as a reference for the canvas guy. All I got to say is this boat building sh!t has gotten real reeeaaallly expensive. |

if you ever drag your boat down to Miami, there's a nice bunch of riders there called Keys Island Runners, all outboards go fast their next event is in April . |

Come on lets see some more pics
|
I was curious what was going on with this build too.
|
Slow go bro’s. The width of these new motors plus the wing plates for the external steering have complicated the Installation of the motors where as there would be a binding situation with the steering rams and boat. We will be setting the motors back another 3 inches that will be a total of 22 inch setback from the transom. Having people that are willing to work during the shut down is also a challenge as well. Always seem to be waiting for something. Finally got P&G Canvas dialed in with a Bimini as he’s been doing much needed medical supplies/shields etc. for the local hospitals 👍. Bimini looks great though! Hope to get working on the cockpit cover as well as a transport cover once we get the interior together. Just trying to get back in the groove as John has got a couple other boats in process.

With a nice boot for the Bimini as with my old boat this will tuck
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e20ec0f36.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e63d3574c.jpeg in behind the rear seat under the hatch nicely |
Hang in there Gary. It's going to come together for you... Keep the faith... Thanks for the conversation today, I know you are busy but I appreciate your time.
|
The Bimini looks great. Stainless steel framing? Also what is the max speed you can leave it up?
|
Had P&G duplicate what he did for me on my last boat, this one may be a touch lower and slightly longer. I’ve run into the upper 50’s -60 with the last without issue. This time I added an additional detachable forward center tether That will attach to the nearest grab handle mounted center on the deck between the canopy’s for additional confidence at speed.
Yes. Stainless steel. |
