SUPER 16's had a hull speed. They wouldn't hit 90 if they had a 300X on one. They have that roundness in the hull....which would make them sort of "teeter totter" at high speed. My '80 with the 200 ran just shy of 80mph. The same motor/prop I put on a 15 'Stream went 90gps. FX10 please don't grill me. :D

Talking about the boats we had back in the 80's. That's 20+ years ago fellows...
I had a 13' Glen-L Marine kit boat I built in high school with a 1972 electric shift 65HP. It went fast enough to pull a bear-footer, and it kicked azz on all the rich kids that had 13' whalers... :D
Then the 1981 15' Hydrostream with a 115 Merc.; paid $3,200 for in 1989. I saw that boat still running just last spring.
Those were the days...
Hell, I spend 3K+ rebuilding engines every year these days... :rolleyes:

Hey Pat...yeah we all are getting old. But we still have the same interests as from our teen years. Just now our toys are more $$. The sad part is I only just parted with the Sweet 16 in 2000!!! :D

Probably 1986 or 87...

Here's the difference. Back in the '80's...everyone & their mother was running 75- 80 -90. Speedo's are f'in worthless. I don't even wanna here someone tell me what there speedo says. Radar? I know. Everyone gets clocked by radar.
- GPS don't lie. All my speeds are GPS. All the theory & math goes out the window. I have tried every setup on all my boats ...trial & error.

Oh Pat...sweet 13. My buddy has a 14" Allison Craft he is setting up for his son. Its hard to find a new motor. They are all too heavy. He does have a 85XS worth re-building. I want one too! :D

24 SUPERBOAT 250EFI set up without anything fancy...just setback & the right prop & right driver. 70.4 all the time. 71.0GPS on occasion. He has something wrong. Either wrong prop or wrong engine height or probably both.
- 2001 "Lightweight" 300X 24 never broke 75. I hit 75.9 on my first heat cycle run with a "heavy" 24 & a 300X.
-24 on SUPERBOAT website with the teal/pink stripe 300PM running around 'Pequa was barely able to shake me with my 250. I will blow by him with the 300X like a freight train.
-The all yellow '80 24 out of Copiague with 300PM top speed he just told me was 69... broke 70 once. Again...set up not dialed in.
-There is a blue/white '80 24SB 225Optimax Sale. I have not gotten any speed reports from him.

The special hull that ytour uncle ordered was a race hull. It was balsa cored from the chine down and there should be foam under the bunk.

I realize that everyone on the forum is a big 30Y2K man now :rolleyes: ...but the 16's & 21's are still alive here on L.I. . I ran into these guys at the ramp last week...pulling this 16 out for the season. Another SUPERBOAT that sat in the pond.....this time all year. :(

Just found this forum.

I grew up on the South Shore and (mis)spent my youth clamming. The first time I saw a 16 Superboat zip by was a revelation. Had the good fortune shortly thereafter to ride in a 16 with an in-line 6 Merc 150 and a solid hub chopper. There was no GPS back then (mid-70's) but a couple of differrent speedo's indicated over 60 mph. I've been way faster since, but going that 60+ in a 16 boat was just about the most thrill per dollar I could imagine. So...

Now I'm all grown up - strike that, I'm lots older - and I have a variety of toys - 20 Sea Ox CC, 25 proline with (self) custom designed pilot house, 20' self designed/built cheaspeake deadrise and 17' self designed/built garvey. Even with all these toys, I'd still like to get a 16' superboat just to zip on nice days and get in a little fishing - save the bigger stuff for the snottier days.

It helps that I have a pair of 150 hp inline 6 Mercs ready to go on a project.

Anyone know of a 16' console Superboat somewhere between LI and Annapolis MD? I'd prefer a beater since I'll want to re-stringer and raise the floor a few inches in back to promote self bailing anyway. I'll also want to chop the console (to reduce windage, you know) and give the boat a lower profile.

Any leads gratefully appreciated.

Anybody remember a 16cc, blue & white named "TIDERUNNER" ? I found it in a pasture in NW Georgia, take it to Florida's left coast bay fishing alot. Love the boat, forgot to ask when I called Superboat for info on it, didn't they come factory with a 17 gal below deck tank? Need to do something about that 22gal above deck tank taking up all my fishing room. Any advice , i'd appreciate it, thanx, Rick C

I put an 18 Gallon above deck plastic permanent TEMPO tucked & mounted inside the console. Ran the gas fill & vent thru top side of console. You can get the right one off the shelf. I never saw a 16 with a below deck tank??? FX10?

thought i'd update this thread...

with all the snow here in the NE, I've been going stir crazy...

I have been able to do some fiberglass work on the console in the shed, and I'm just about done...but the big news is TAX SEASON!

Tax refund on it's way and a NEW 115 is about to be procured!

hey new on the board. I just restored a 78 superboat center console. it was badly rotted. it was my first attempt in fiberglass work, i did alright.

i made a tool to follow the contor of the hull to match the new stringers. i used marine ply 3/4.

almost done, this was done in the summer of 2004, alot of solo man hourss. used interlux bright side to paint. not the best job but looks good from a distance


note: see studs for tank

also beefed up the stringers to the transom

i am currently have a 110 johnson with a 12" setback

I thought we had the bumprail in stock. Did you call JC at the shop ? The reason I didn't tell you about this site is because it's mostly bigger offshore boats (OFFSHORE ONLY.COM ).

I put the batteries under the drivers seat. since i beefed up the stringers by the transom , there was no room in the stock location. I LIKE HAVING the extra battery despite the weight cost.

Didn't the original floor go to the transom ? I had my batteries on either side under the engine well. With a vinyl snap on cover over the opening t the well. It was really clean looking.

my floor ends where pwm's does and there was a small shelf behind it.

i'm gonna put my battery under the console...trying to move as much weight forward as possible.
