16' Center Console
I saw that 16 in Boats4Sale and was wondering if anyone had any experience/opinions on it.
have any of you guys ridden in one? I'm lookign for a little bay boat to fish out of that will be easy to trailer and I think this fills the bill. I spoke to John and he's given me some valuable info on the usual places to look for rot/etc... what do you guys think a project 16 is really worth? |
Re: 16' Center Console
Sean,
I just took a peak at that ad. You could turn that into a real gem. I think it would be sweet to bay fish from. You could get up in some really shallow water. |

Mine was sweet! I "gave" it away for 2K less motor. They are getting harder to find & I kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it. The 16's believe it or not handle some ruff water & also handle some big power. I had a 200 on it. Now if it only had a pad...
|
Re: 16' Center Console
Mine had a 150 Merc. Sweet toy..................... Handled the water beautifully.

Re: 16' Center Console
got my little project 2 weeks ago...started gutting it yesterday...looks like its gonna be a fun project :) I'll post pics of the progress.

Re: 16' Center Console
Excellent news!!!!
The flounder better watch out this spring! :D |
Re: 16' Center Console
If you need any parts, give Coen a call at Superboats (631-226-1761). We also still have all the templates for the 16. Good luck. I'll be here for advise if you need it.

Re: 16' Center Console
thanks rick...
everything is all there...just need to strip it and repaint the floor...gel is in good shape, i'm going to remove the bottom paint, wet sand and compound the entire hull, deck and console...add new harward like pop up cleats, new nav lights...new dash and then find some power for it. hey...just to be sure, ask john if the floor was always glass over wood and not a liner...this boat has no liner. and oh yeah...i'm gonna need some superboat stickers! :) :) |
Re: 16' Center Console
Whats the matter your camera broken? Glass over wood. Post some pics of that SUPER16! Are you going with a 300X???hehe Later.
|
Re: 16' Center Console
The floor is fiberglass over wood. A layer of 1 1/2 oz mat and 22 oz roving. Thats how they all are.

Not bad....& what did we say we were bolting to the transom???
Put those new SB decals on the deck...They're underwater on the sides of a 16. - Just went out...windiest day I have ever been on the water. Robert Moses Bridge had 3-4' rollers no b.s. |
Re: 16' Center Console
By the looks of that waterline, that 16 had a tiny 40 hp on it. Your going to take care of that problem.............aren't you ?? Mine with the 150 on it sat alot lower in the water. Bash is right, the decals will be under the water. Better to move them to the deck.

I dont know what was on it...does anyone have any pics of this boat sitting in the water? Where do you guys think this will float?
Decals came off today..along with a bunch of other crap...check out the underside of the stbd decal...notice anything different? I dunno what I'm gonna put on it yet...truthfully, I was thinking 90 to 135 Merc... |
Re: 16' Center Console
I sold mine 7 years ago. It turns out a buddy of mine wanted me to look at a 16 he was interested in a few months ago. It turned out to be my old boat. It was beat to s#@t !! Still, it had a 135 on it and the custom transom bracket. It's 100 feet down the canal from my boat. So I'll swing by on the way home tomorrow and take a pic, so you can determine the waterline.

Re: 16' Center Console
Need bumprail ??
|
Re: 16' Center Console
Rick,
yup...need a rubrail...just not sure what i'm gonna use yet...I like the 1" white plastic(i think TACO makes it)...can you guys get me a price? How fast with a 135? can you see if john would be interested in re-gelling the boat and how much it would be? basically what i'm going to do is prep the boat...sand and fill all holes and then have someone shoot it...and i will take it from there(wet sand, compound...) did you notice the difference in the name from stbd to port side? |
Re: 16' Center Console
I found a pic of my old 16 with Vinny, it's new owner. The waterline (slimeline) is around 5" down from the bumprail in the stern. Unfortunately, the pic is on the other puter, and Kimberly refuses to stop chatting with her girlfriends !!!! AHHHHH !!! Ah hmm, OK where was I ? Reshoot gelcoat on the boat ? I would wind up doing it. But I would also advise against it. Go with an Imron or Awlgrip job. You cant compare the gloss of gelcoat to Imron. And its tough paint.
We might have the bumprail in stock. Call Coen to check. 631-226-1761 Rick |
Re: 16' Center Console
Heres the pic. Notice the slime line going through the superboat decal. And to answer your question on speed with the 135. Vinny doesnt have a speedo, but he has me by a mile or two an hour. So he doing in the upper 50's. He also has a 6" adjustable setback.

oops!! heres the pic

Re: 16' Center Console
rick...thanks for the pic
I'm pretty much set on gelcoat...i've been there, done that with imron and awlgrip on several boats...neither can compare to the durability of gelcoat. shine isnt all that important to me. are you interested in shooting it? If so give me a call... :) 516 455 1200 thanks again for all the info on this boat! |
Re: 16' Center Console
I'm going to have to pass, I'm booked with my fiberglass business right now. It's going to be alot of coin though, compared to Imron. If Coen wants to take it on, I'll wind up doing it though. A good Imron job holds up better the gelcoat. And is easy to repair. believe me.........I've been doing this for 30 years.

|
Re: 16' Center Console
Yup, And he also bought a 32 cat if I'm not mistaken. I remember carpeting his interior. I'm referring to the guy that owed all the Orange Julious's. What about Orange Plus, that was another one.
|
Re: 16' Center Console
I know that boat. The owner lived on the bay in Harbor Green (massapequa). He owned the orange drink store at the sunrise mall called "Orange Julius". Guess he wanted to advertise his store with the boat.
|
Re: 16' Center Console
yup !! thats the guy
|
Re: 16' Center Console
ORANGE PLUS
-Had a 115 'RUDE I always remember. It was down off Alhambra rd a few years ago. Leo DiBlasio owned it. That boat was the talk of all of the GSB.... back in the day. |
Re: 16' Center Console
i remember that boat before Alhambra it was in new harbour green in massapequa
thats why i want one. it a great boat just to f around with on the bay |
Re: 16' Center Console
Wasn't Orange Plus , Joey Impressia's 16, when he worked at Alhambra ?
|
Re: 16' Center Console
no
it was some guy in my neighbor hood that had red hair thats all i remember |
Re: 16' Center Console
Orange Julius was owned by Russ Wenakur. His father owned the Orange Julius store at the mall. Does anyone remember a 16 named "6 pack"
|
Re: 16' Center Console
thayes11:hammy:
Thats funny about the insurance thing! I ran into him about the same time at Rockbottom in E.Massapequa. He did my insurance way back. I have been around so many 16CC's I get confused who had what. I gotta scan & post a pic of "GO FOR IT" ...a 16CC with a 70 johnstone (it was the '80's...he caught hell with that name across the side & that little motor!) |
Re: 16' Center Console
My buddy lived on Beach St. with his brother (about halfway down on the right a few years ago...directly across the canal from Dick&Doras). I used to take my 16 there in 96-97. Two or three doors down was a guy (Tony?) with a blue/white 16 with a 115Merc. I did a bathroom job for a friend...& took a 16 closed deck..boat motor trailer as payment. I gave it to my friend on Beach St....he jerked me off all summer & winter for the $...He had it sitting on the front lawn( red/white)& then sold it.

Re: 16' Center Console
Superbash,
I think that blue and white one with the 115 merc is the one I have now. Goes pretty good with the 115. Boat is real clean. |
