Keep it pristine????? When parked, I wouldn't let air touch it if I could figure out how to do it.
One other thing. During the course of my life I have been hard into motorcycles and cars. I made a living for six years in Maine detailing motorcycles. All in all I probably entered at least 14 bike shows with both my 57' Panhead and my 85' Eliminator. I won all 14 shows. By the time I'm done if it can be seen, it'll either be waxed, polished, armored alled, buffed out, dusted, and whatever else I can do to make it shine.
It will NEVER be a trailer queen. But it will be the best looking road car out there......
When people see the boat they never ever believe it's an 89'. To me, that is my "therapy", rather than pay some rubberheaded psycho-babbler too much money, I go make the toys look good.....
....works for me.....

Here a pix taken Saturday morning at a buddies house. That's my buddy Dave on the left. He walked out of his house with a check with my name on it for ten grand more than I paid for it. Turned him down.....

Outlaw- It is easy to mistake and incorrectly hook the jumper cables on the old Vettes since they were fiberglass. On metal bodies the neg. goes straight to the body/frame.
My father had a 55 with a V8 and it sat alll winter the bat.. was dead.

The battery cables were incorrectly clamped on my truck battery, not the Vette. That's what I get for letting someone help me....
Picked up a 1000 cranking amps battery today. Will get it installed tomorrow. The one I took out was 580 cranking amps. This ought to spin that motor over....
Supposed to rain next three days....
And all the while the moving continues.....what a drag....

Well I got the new battery installed and that seems to have cured the problem. Fired right off, ammeter guage appears to be working correctly, when I turned the lights on it momentarily flickered then right back to right of center. Had time to run to the grocery store in it and just got it back then ten minutes later the rain started. Also filled it up with gas.
Here's a question. Do they rate the octane #'s the same way they did in the 60's???? The owner's manual says run 103 octane but the guy I bought it off of said to be sure to run 93 octane. So just to be safe I dumped octane booster in it. I need to find this out.
That thing is just such a friggin' blast to drive. It's about as sophisticated as a wrecking ball....

Has the engine ever been opened? If not The octane isn'nt the problem...lead is. I cant remember when the switch to unleaded was, but if your motor (Im pretty sure it is) was designed for leaded gas, you need to pull the heads and have hardened seats installed, or just get a set of later model heads and do a valve job, and save the old heads. Not a big deal and can be done for under a grand. Then adjust the timing so you can run 93 or 92 oct. Forget all the additive crap...not worth the trouble and you can still screw it up.

I KNEW it was the battery! That car is awesome looking. Is the engine original? Has it ever had a valve job?
I have had very good luck changing auto and marine engines with points over to Delco HEI. It doesn't look the same, but it works great. You can fire plugs with much wider gaps with the available voltage. Fatter spark=more complete combustion=more power=better performance=less emissions and cleaner combustion chambers.
