Class 5 Trailer Hitch
#11
For my 2006 2500 Dmax I bought a Putnam XDR from Fontaine Equipment, about $230 installed. Check Putnams site for your correct part number. I thought the installed price was excellent. The factory wiring bracket had to be whizzed off the old hitch, and welded on the new one, and that procedure was included in the labor. It's obviously a serious hitch.....

Buy direct. Great hitch, and great price, with easy installation.
It only comes with Grade 5 bolts though. I'd advise switching to Grade 8 bolts when you install it. It MUST be installed with the collars that ship with the hitch, so the factory Grade 8 bolts are not long enough.
The factory hitch is only rated for 12,000 lbs AS A FULL WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION SETUP; so don't get confused. Overall, the factory GM hitch is a P.O.S.

I'm 8 ebay hours from a putnam 25182, need to go look at the pics of the electrical installs. Get that all taken care of and then......oh yeah, pick up the boat to go behind it.

just get a "plug in" (Hoppy is the common brand but there are a few) trailer harnes (flat 4-pin plug if that's what you want)for '06 Siverado or whatever...
it'll have the round plug with side tooth locks on the other end that plugs right into the azz-end light harness up just behind the spare. Route it to your content to your destination of choice. Secure it with zip-ties along the way.
SHAZAM.

If my truck were fortunate enough to live in the sheltered environment like yours then it would be SHAZAM!!!
-25 windchill, garage to small for the truck, will farm this one out to my good friend in his garage. (Searay 410 guy from the bay, garage is right around the corner from work)

Mark's a good guy, I think he bought a boat from me once.
I'm just relieved you didn't speak of him as your "trailer wiring guy"
