A lot of benefits. Extended drain intervals, easily 15k. Better fuel economy 5-10% increase, cooler operating temps, easier starting, saves on batteries on starters. The list goes on and on.

Changing 14 quarts of oil on a diesel at anything less than 5000 miles is rediculous and wasteful and a waste of $$$. All of these engines are designed for 300k plus miles and 99.9% of the guys on this board can afford to replace their trucks WWWAAAAYYYYY before that. I used to change my Cummins are 5k and have switched to 7500 with Rotella. That engine will outlive my truck's frame and body by 10x. Synthetics can run from 15k to 20k with no drawbacks at all.

Diesel oil will be black after 500 miles so it always looks dirty, but by changing the oil too often and causing dry starts and having too many detergents built up in your engine you are doing a lot more harm than good

Yes that's true on the 325/610 Cummins I had. I used 15w40 synthetic so I changed at 7500, thinking the oil would hold up under all that soot and it did, but seeing the oil as black after the change as it was before really sucked.

I used Wix as my filter, never had an issue. That was what the guys on the Cummins forums said the use, Wix and Fleetguard which is the Mopar filter.

Amsoil advertises 25k between changes but they also recommend oil analysis every 5k after 10k on the change. Some have gone much farther than 25k on a change!

Have those who have gone the 15K miles done oil analysis?
