Default 6.0 Power stroke help

2005 with 92k on the clock, this only happens when towing, the little wrench pops up on the dash and the clutch fan starts to engage, then it says check engine temp and temp needle goes to the red, I have a programmer on it and the coolant temp reading never goes above 190*, I just had the turbo replaced because the veins sticking and loosing boost, but this had happened also before adding the new turbo. Im thinking faulty sensor misleading the ECM into thinking its hot..???? Need some 6.0 experts to chime in TIA

Could be a faulty sensor. What kind of programmer does it have? Do you know what your oil temps are?

oil temp gauge on the dash never moves above 1/2....... is that tranny temp in the pic ? or oil...after about 5 minutes of driving it all goes back to normal, I will get the programmer info

found this on a ford forum, this is exactly what mine does

Hello i have a 2005 f350 dually 6 speed, it has 114xxx on it, today i was driving and "check gauges" came up on the display and the fan clutch engaged, everything looked good then after a minute the temp gauge topped all the way out into the red so i pulled over and shut it down, popped open the hood to find everything looked fine, coolant level was at the min mark and the engine wasn't really that hot. so i got in it and started it up temp gauge went back to normal. but the fan clutch was still engaged. about a minute or so later it did the same thing. can anyone help me with what this could be?

Also moved on to a 6.7L.

8 years driving a 6.0L and never saw that one. But I will bet it's a bad sensor or shorted to ground. Unplug and see if drops to -40. If so, bad sensor.
