And I agree D. Scott and Bud Select run like a business yes, but those boats call this lake home. On any given weekend we get the pleasure of Bud Select flying by at 150+, or tying up in our party cove...
I don't have a "cause" - I boat either by myself or with my friends there and have a great time.

My point, very simply, is that it is a great place to run a fast boat, and there are a lot of them. every size, type and speed. There will always be a "better" place depending upon what your criteria is.

Augie, I'm from SW Michigan and was wondering about how many days/hours did it take you hauling your boat from WI to Havasu??? I am determined to bring my boat down there for a visit on a weekend that isn't too busy. Sounds like a pretty cool place. I would also like to do a run on the Delta up by San Francisco.[/QUOTE]

I hear the Delta is awesome. The Sacramento area (American River) has tons of restaraunts and bars along the river. I want to get up there myself.

The Delta is a ton of fun. It would help a lot to locate someone who has very good knowledge of the waterways, it can be confusing.

Spend a week, two days at Havasu, Two days in the Delta, two days travel time - you will be glad you did..

True, true, true....I can see why all you guys love LOTO so much. If I could only boat 3 months out of the year I'd think the lake I boated on was the best in the world too!

Havasu's cool. I boat there a lot. Lake boating is pretty much the same no matter what fresh water lake you're on. It's different than ocean boating. We had a lot of guys come out for the poker run this year from NY and FL that hadn't been before. Most were not that impressed. It's a different style of boating. If you're used to running 100+ miles to get to a destination, Havasu is not for you. If you're into partying, and doing short hops from spot to spot and hanging on your boat all day then yes, havasu is probably for you.

Just like ANY place I"ve ever boated, you can find azzholes. Gerrard is right though, it does seem theres more less desirable's in havasu than ever before. For someone who has never been there, you'd probably not even know the difference. For someone like Gerrard, or me, or many others that have been going there for many years, you probably would notice a difference. But I usually never have a problem staying away from them. The lakes big enough to find your own cove to party in or be right in the middle of a full fledge public strip show.

Either way, 90% of the people that go for the first time (poker runners) say they'll be back. There's a reason for the high return rate, it's just something you have to come out and experience.

By the way, I've never been hastled for loud pipes, size of boat or even stopped by the cops there in the last 10+ years of boating. I guess your own attitude has a lot to do with how you are treated by the police, marina staff, rangers, people in general, etc.

I think the characterization that you have to be a world champion partier to have fun at Havasu is overstated.

I have never been a fan of partying, and NEVER when on the water running my Boat. The Guy's I run with (all of whom actually LIVE in Havasu) are all about going fast and figuring out how to go faster - they steer clear of the party and stupid behavior.

I think it is fair to say that there is a variety of behavior occuring at the lake at any given time, and you can find what you are looking for. Same with the Delta, same with So Cal, same with the 25 places in Florida I have raced and boated in.

Quit yur *****en

Too easy to go to jail these days for B.S. I try to steer clear of the crap.....but sometimes I guess it's in my (Italian) nature to stomp somebodys a$$ when appropriate.

Last time I was at Havasu, at the sandbar, we had some drunk idiot, with his kids, and family, blarihng 2Live Crew, singing along to Pop That Coochie, in front of their kids....cant anchor for crap in current, almost slams into us and then proceeds to start a fight with us. Hs wife, her tattoed girlfriends, his buddies, their pit bulls.....all wondering why WE almost hit him......afer we had been at anchor for THREE HOURS minding out own business. One dickless wonder and a true animal rights activist - threatened to THROW HIS PITBULL ONTO OUR BOAT...beautiful I say. The personification of class I tell ya.
I dunno, chalk it up to a holiday weekend, or call me crazy...there looked to be the same croud everywhere - stupid, irresponsible and drunk everywhere I looked.
The boating and the water is great though...nice town, cheap, good places to goto on the water. Doubt I'll ever go back on a holiday weekend though...
