They both owned 34 Powerquests. So have two other of Macklin (and my) good friends in the Mid-Atlantic. They all say the same thing about the boats. The deadrise, keel design, and flat wide lifting strakes designed to get the hull out out of the water also provide for a quite jarring ride in the rough. It's got nothing to do with length in this particular instance.

AJ POWERPLAY 12-02-2012 12:59 PM

It was nothing against AT boats, just no need to be cutting down other brands with BS claims to make them look bad... I owned a 29 PQ and had no problems whatsoever in 3-4' waves as long as I wasn't driving like a moron... They just must be "fragile" I suppose:)

I wouldn't mind owning an AT, improvements I would like to see would be deck design and cabin entry design (i found the 33 cabin entry to be a little short for me and I think it was due to the top not being recessed a little). Otherwise a very nice boat... I liked the side by side seating with drop in bolster, it worked out great for the poker run

Just not in the same league as AT. But then again the 340 really only has 30' of hull in the water after you deduct the 3' platform and 1' notch in the transom.

it could be possiable that the people you speak of need to drive a larger boat because they are unable 2 operate a smaller boat safely

Did I miss something ? Not sure what your issue is... Both Mackilin and I both owned PQ Vypers and have the same opinion. I truly enjoy the PQ brand and even had a brand new 91 Laser built back in the day and loved it. Also running a cruise speed of 55 mph in lake erie swells running the trofs was exactly what we have done. Ask my buddy P4-33 who was on board, sorry but the wave height bouie report at avon point verified 10-12 foot seas that day. It was not fun and if it wasnt for being able to run in the troffs it would have been a different story for sure. Oh yeah you dont know that because I did not see you out there running with us that day now did I ? :daz: Oh yeah almost forgot we just ran back in the open ocean swells from KW with sommer thunder (And Pat passed the Skater. LOL) and guess what yup you guessed it right we where running 55 mph in some realy snotty **** but you where not there then either now where you.

Oh Yeah dont try either of those with a PQ Vyper as its not safe for your health.... LOL

Thanks Pat. As usual, you nailed it. Except I have not decided what I want next. I can say we miss the AT.

Macklin, You know how an AT handles. I like center consoles too but to me they have some real drawbacks... Everyone except the driver is out in the wind hanging on and there is no way to get protected from wind and rain. Not much large storage. With that said I see the conveniences of a boat you can wash out and the ease of maintenance of those eggbeaters. The 33 outboard has to be the best of all worlds. except i would put three of them on the back. The 33 hull will handle pretty much anything the 37 will. It would be cool to see someone build another one.

When ordering a boat, what's the upcharge to go from 525s to 600s or 700/NXTs?

THE 288 KID 12-02-2012 06:09 PM

I think its 7-8g to go to 600 from 525

I would think it's a lot more than that. If i remember correctly the 700 NXT package was an $80,000 upgrade.

THE 288 KID 12-02-2012 07:05 PM

Just repeating what I was told by a guy that had just bought a new boat with a 600sci in it... 96% sure I'm recalling correctly although I was a few beers into my day...

REMEDY 12-02-2012 07:23 PM

And its gotta be an AT with side entry! X:evilb::hijack:

no need to be sorry,,just having fun...

Not sure what retail sheet says but net cost is close to $30k for the pair. 700s are probably about $55 net. Then if you want the right CNCd props you have a good 5-7k on top.

He coulda bought a leftover. It's not a great stock engine to put in a spec boat. Most want 525s.

So another $30k to go twin 600s instead of twin 525s and $55k to go twin 700/NXT instead of twin 525s? Or does that mean $80k for twin 700s/NXTs instead of 525s? Just wondering if I'm reading it correctly or not.

Edit: I know we're talking rough numbers

AJ POWERPLAY 12-02-2012 11:13 PM

Seems like it would be much more economical to get the 525's and install the whipple kits or even the mercury supercharger upgrade...? Is this not correct?

AJ POWERPLAY 12-03-2012 06:08 AM

Sorry for the confusion Laszlo... you're right, I wasn't there.
check out 288KID and I running some true 5 footers in northern Michigan, it was pretty intense

Back on track----> when are some more pics of the sport cruiser going to be up? Any test results?

ActiveThunder 12-03-2012 05:01 PM

Since the mods aren't doing it, time out boys.

You hijacked a thread from the OP which is pretty inconsiderate. While I like to have my owners proud of their boats and how they run I firmly believe any day out on any brand boat is a good day. All boats have high points and low points, mine included.

Regardless, let's not get all goofey here. I probably can take the worst riding, ill handing POS and run circles around many in the best handling boat on the planet earth (which would be AT, of course!)

But tied up at the dock we all have the same love for the sport and proud of what we own. Don't let some internet forum ruin for you when you all meet up on the same event. It's just not worth it.

Ok, back to a little fun conversation?:angry-smiley-038:

Who's coming to Miami?

Unfortunately I have pulled away from this deal. I could not get a signed letter of commitment from the partners I was involved with and then felt offering the AT name brand was going to give the company a 'black eye' based on the way I perceived the venture was going.

525 to 600s is about $30k net and then from 525s to 700s is about $55k net.

What drives with 600s?

DRP 12-03-2012 06:29 PM

Well, if we are going to get this back on track...I'm the jackass OP (that was guilty of contributing to the shenanigans).

I think I made it clear that I want to be in a 33 AT as a next boat but don't think the timeframe and budget will coincide. I'm in a single now and am looking to step up to twins so I feel safe enough to tackle some Lake Michigan runs and LOTO. I would love to wait and go straight to the 33 but just don't know I can wait that long. My second choice would be the 32 AT (while waiting/saving for the 33) but those are scarce as well. My question is, do I ride it out for however long it takes to get the 33 or do I make a gradual step up? If I make a step up (with the intent to ultimately be in a 33) what should I be looking at for a good ride that is a common, easy to find boat? (Sorry PPJ) I was thinking Sonic 31ss, 33 AVS, 33 outlaw??? Again, I am asking here because you guys already know what an awesome ride is like.

Also as a reminder, this is just for conversation fun, I'm not shopping at all for a couple years...I need to build my business up more first.

And if this gets off track again...lets make sure the ball bustin is top notch! I'm always up for a good laugh.

Thanks!

I already said to wait it out for an AT. I almost bought a Sonic. Really dug the room and slide out bed. 33AVS has decent lines an I like the look but IMO the room sucks and the helm is cheezy. I have never been on a 33 Baja so I have no opinion.
