I would suggest putting the oil temperature sender downstream of the cooler, perhaps in a fitting in the line delivering oil back into the engine. You are interested in what the engine gets fed, not what happens inside the engine since that is going to happen anyway.
That is odd that the thermostat works in that manner, but I suppose it is that way so that it functions as a bypass valve. This would provide alternate paths for the oil to flow when it is cold and perhaps avoid blowing up the filter or cooler. I guess Merc anticipates the use of a high viscosity single weight oil that may look more like molasses on a cool morning than oil. :nicethread: |

The oil still has to go through the filter in order re-enter the block. It could technically cycle through the cooler forever before going to the filter, until the thermostat closes and forces it to go through the cooler then forces it to go through the filter then back into the block. |

With the drive box and full length drive, 6 PSI at 5.000" (775 HP-15X28P Bravo 1), 8 PSI at 4.750" (825 HP--15X29P Bravo 1) and 10 PSI at 4.500" (875 HP-15X30P Bravo 1), right from the Whipple Website.

I want to know the temp coming out of the motor. This is the hottest point and you can monitor problems better, and you never know what the cooler is doing if you monitor after, unless you run 2 temp gauges.

Plus, Who puts their coolant temp sensor before the water/coolant goes in the engine ? :) |

Redid my dash too and added my Lowrance. Twins have plenty gauges to figure out. Had to move fuel gauge down next to the steering helm. Came out good, but it was tight!!

Thanks for the input guys. The hot oil side makes more sense to me as well, plus it'll be easier to pop a sensor in there.
After waiting almost 3 weeks to get the $40 O rings that seal the intake to intercooler, intercooler to spacer, and spacer to SC I still don't have anything that will work. The ones Whipple sent me are too long and too small diameter but they say those are the only ones they have. Pretty disappointed in their lack of ability to provide simple product support. Sent them pictures of the o rings laid out next to each other, pics clearly showing the o rings are too long but didn't help any. Frickin install manual even states the correct sizes. Suppose I'm expecting too much product support for a $11,000 upgrade kit... So I cleaned all the rtv off the old ones best I could and they'll have to get reused. Got just about all the tedious stuff done. Put the intercooler fittings in and then put the cherry on top and she should be ready to fire.
