AS IS means AS IS- No warranties.
The dealer offered to look at it. No warranty= you pay.
To make things more interesting, the boat has Volvo Power. Not many dealers or shops deal with Volvo, they deal with Merc.
Not that Volvo is bad, just limited repair facilities and parts availability. The first boat I bought many years ago was Volvo powered. Big mistake on my part regarding easy service and parts availability. Nothing wrong with them, just cant walk in and pick up Volvo parts like you can Merc.
With the boat you looked at & eventually bought: with a new engine, and new upholstry, then adding Vovlvo into the equation, I would have def looked at something else. Several Red Flags for me.
The dealer probably works on Merc primarily as do most shops, so chances are he wouldnt have a Volvo scan tool, or many if any parts.
Boating isnt cheap. Things break, things need regular service and maintainence. How much do you think the guys with twin engines, or tripples like me, spend to keep things up or repaired ?
Cruiser type boats usually sit in the water for long periods of time, so they are not as easy to maintain as trailered boats, and that is only if the owner is capable and has the knowledge to do so. Cruisers really need to be looked at hard, real hard.
If you dont like the costs of a single engine boat, dont ever buy anything else other than a single. You will really hate boating life then.
If you want a cheap hobby, get into rock collecting. Boating aint cheap. It always cost money. Welcome to boating and enjoy your new boat.

What part of what I, Fast Willy, or others have said don't you
comprehend? Remember 35 YEARS in business. This was not
Jo Bob's Vehicle Sales that sprung up over night in an empty
parking lot.
Fast Willy called Castle Marine Outlet first! He was told by the
SERVICE MANAGER that they did not have the proper connector
to scan his Volvo Penta engine. So why bring it there? If they did
have the scan tool ready to go then yes Fast Willy should have let
Castle Marine try to make it right. But that is NOT the scenario. Why
bring the boat to the dealer and let it sit while they order the proper
tools, diagnose the problem, order parts, then get around to fixing
it? It's Summer. The Dude wanted to go boating.
Fast Willy is NOT looking for excessive amounts of free work or
parts.
Now will a scan tool show a potential "fuel pressure/fuel pump"
issue if you know where to look? Do the pumps get weak first or
do they just fail outright? This problem may have been foreseen by
a good mechanic and fixed before the boat died the second time.
If yes then Fast Willy will have to eat the fuel pump cost.
If you can't service Volvo Penta equipment then DON'T sell it.
And NO as-is does not mean as-is. One merely needs to watch a
few episodes of Judge Judy to realize this. Now would a 30-day
implied warranty on an 8 year old boat be excessive? Yes. On a
two year old boat? No. But come on folks. 3.8 hours? I put that
much time on the meter idling in the slip waiting for the girls to
quit yakking, put their stuff away, then putting around the lake
before having to get back to a harbor so that they can tinkle!
No the customer is not always right. But some of the attitudes
shown here is why OSO has scam artists and unscrupulous
businesses that we won't be getting rid of any time soon.

dbkski...you said it yourself....they have 35 years in the business.
You dont stay in business that long, and not know a thing or two about how to deal with whiners, hustlers, and pouty babies. " Wahhhhhh !!!...my little sponge thing that floats my keys fell off right after I left your dealership....I put it back on myself, and now you owe me $200 for my labor... Waaaaaahhhh" !!!! Yeah right.
They asked him to bring it back....how do you know they wouldnt have borrowed a scanner, or bought one for themselves ? Answer my previous question...how do they know he REALLY had the problems he said he had, and now wants money for ? You talk about hustlers on here...maybe he's one. Probably not, but theres no way anybody...ANYBODY..is gonna pony up money for something they havent seen for themselves.
35 years in the business....not 6 months...remember that.

Thats about the first thing you said I agree with. I'm not suing them, but I sure will let people know how they run there buisness. The more you respond the more I wonder if you work for them. Nuff said, Tinman 565 one day I hope you go thru this.
