Default #6 SS nose cone removal

I need to remove the SS nose cone on my 6's to access the aluminum housing in front of the gear case, but I don't have the cone shaped Merc tool used for this. Any suggestions on how to remove the SS cone using "standard" tools: without damaging the cone?

I called Cola, but he's not returning calls.

Get the right tools - I tried using drift pins, etc... with no luck. You also need to heat the case where the threads are to release the loctite.

I could dig up the part #'s for the tools if you need ....

The tool part numbers might be helpful: if I can afford the tools .

Socket tool is 91-847468

and the pin is 91-847418

Those 2 parts on mercruiserparts.com came out to $150 plus shipping.
