Rik. Are the extension boxes supposed to sit below the notch? It looks like they do.

More than an inch above.

Ah, thought so.

Any idea about what kind of props you will run?

4 or 5 blades? What horsepower do you have? I'm curious, as I plan on putting Arnesons on my 1994, single notched transom, 38ft Cigarette Top Gun in the future. It wieghts 11,500lbs dry. I have one ASD7M drive in the Garage, just saving up for the 2nd. Can't wait to see your results. Don't forget to show some video when you go out!

These picture is why I decided to go with Arnesons. This was the worst of the gears.

:eek::eek:And why every hi-po B1 owner should consider it. Over time, that is money out the window right there.

Are you running 1,56 gears in the arnies? I assume you ran 1,5 in the B1's. What pitch/rpm/speed did you run with the B1's?

Looking forward to see some numbers.

kjm5125 08-10-2011 06:59 PM

1.56 gears in the Arnesons and 1.5 in the XR's. I was running 5 blade Hydromotives - 15-1/2 x 29 (P-5). The best speed was 83.1 GPS @ 5,300 rpm's.

UrbanDisturbance 08-15-2011 09:57 AM

Well....when is your test run????? We are all waiting.:drink:

That just looks so nice. Why on earth Formula won't deliver them like that is beyond me.

Awesome. I can't wait to do mine. That looks great. When you have time, can you post a side view to show how close the bottom of the standoff box is to the top of your step. Do you know if they had to lower or raise the original position of the engines?

I am at the bay for the weekend, I will keep an eye out for roosters. If you see my 382 with a teal stripe buzz us and I'll get a vid with the go pro. Good luck with your project.

Sounds great and depending on how things go I'll be around the Casino or at the Bay.

I'll take a picture, it's about 1". The engines mounts were moved 2.5" forward. The concern we had, because of the Intercoolers, would we still have hatch clearance. As it turns out we had plenty of room.

A.O. Razor 08-20-2011 08:07 PM

So, how was testing today?

kjm5125 08-21-2011 11:32 AM

Well..........

Somewhere within 15 minutes the port transmission failed and we limped back to the marina.

I contacted Rik and he said he will take care of it immediately.

What I learned in that short period of time, and I knew, is that the Arneson drives handle much different than the XR's. As I've heard, to get on plane, you need to find your "new sweet spot". Just when I thought I found my "sweet spot" is when I realized there was a problem.

Once it gets repaired and I'm back on the water and I get some good seat time, I know I will truly like the drives.

Wow, that's a bit of a bummer. Any idea what happened?
Glad to hear you are still optimistic about your new drives.

kjm5125 08-21-2011 07:04 PM

A seal failed....yea, needless to say I was pretty bummed.

waconda 08-21-2011 07:29 PM

Were these used transmissions? How long did it take to get on plane or it broke before you got on plane?

kjm5125 08-21-2011 08:03 PM

New transmissions and I don't know when the failure happened.

SkiDoc 08-21-2011 08:37 PM

Don't get discouraged. Any major job like that will have some
bugs to work out. Did you get to
look at your water pressure, temps etc?

+1

What is your plan. Is it "only" a matter of changing the seal, or do they want to rebuild the tranny? Did Rik give you an idea about when you'll be good to go?

offshorexcursion 08-22-2011 06:30 PM

sorry to hear about you troubles but "Good things never come easy". We are all so excited to see how it turns out!

Thanks for all the updates good or bad.

Mechanic will have engines out by Friday. New transmissions to be delivered Monday.

Sorry to hear about the problem. Pulling the motors cost a little $$$$$. What transmission, 1350?

ICDEDPPL 08-25-2011 04:43 PM

Wait , I`m confused, I thought the Arneson B1 conversion did not require transmissions?

It does. It is included in the ASD#6 and ASD#7M kits. It sits in the standoff box, so you don't have to move your engine forward. One of the many reasons why the setup is as strong as it is. I think it's a Velvet Drive trans of some sort.

We did have to move the engine 3" forward.

That sucks you had to move the engines because I heard from Rik that I would not have to. But obviously every boat is different.

Did you have to move them because your notched transom or something else?
