I would kill to have a cozy place to keep the boat and be able to tinker at will. I need about a 40x60, but the neighborhood assn would most likely not approve. Kitty's brother in law had a great shop next to his house for that kind of thing but he decided to knock off the cover to his underground propane with a tractor and BOOM!, no more barn......

It has been nice to have this winter, especially since I bought the boat so late, though it's not been without it's price. Started out as a joint venture, which was fairly reasonable, and quickly became dis-jointed. In that the building owner is a long time friend I ended up doing a little more than I had planed on, kinda became double-jointed, so to speak, he's been real good about the whole deal. Oh well, such is life, sometimes you just gotta do what you know is right. I could have spent the money on a trip south, or a cruise, but in reality have more fun fussing with the boat. :D

don't mean to depress you 1000 Islanders but... boating season's still two months away.

still havin' fun with the sleds for at least another couple weeks. Best March for riding in a few years. Did 150 mi. Tuesday in 7 hours with a long lunch stop. :)

gonna ride Monday and Tuesday this coming week...

Salmon River tributaries starting to run down south and the view of the valley from the Timberview last week (clear 10* day).

speaking of enjoyment...

I am enjoying perusing the new full-page of legal-eze attached to this year's dockage bill...

a couple of those articles are near and dear to me as you know :evilb:

though I find the pre-emptively absolving yourself from bringing any suit of any kind over any result of using the premises regardless of conditions with a simple non-witnessed John Hancock through the mail, to be...well...
entertaining.

I expected this long ago, but how much "water" does it really hold to protect our friend?

Spring riding was my absolute favorite time. Tons of snow, packed in good, right out into the woods on a sunny 50 degree day..........just doesn't get better than that!!

However, work put an end to that. Our refueling outages are staggered for the two units, each unit is on a two-year refueling frequency. So, every year one or the other is down in March. Every year my March is spent getting reaquainted with the reactor vessel up close and personal. Pretty much wiped out my spring riding.

Saves money for boating though.:cool-smiley-011:

News Flash

On YAHOO! News today;

Diesel fumes can affect your brain, scientists say

Inhaling diesel exhaust triggers a stress response in the brain that may have damaging long-term effects on brain function, Dutch researchers said on Tuesday.

"It is concievable that the long-term effects of exposure........may interfere with normal brain function and information processing."

Further research is needed to determine the clinical effect of this stress and whether it has any long-term impact on verbal and non-verbal intelligence or memory abilities.

Gotta tell you, this and seeing diesel fuel at the Sunoco this morning @ $ 4.159 make me want to run right down and buy one. The stress deal could explain some cranky and out of sorts behavior.

Could come in handy in a traffic stop...."Well Officer, the last I remember I was going 55, I just can't seem to remember when that was. Officer, could you just give me a little break here, you know it is a diesel."

That kills me, diesel fuel is like one refinery step above crude oil. Why in the world diesel fuel should cost more than gasoline is beyond my comprehension abilities.

Well $4.159 yesterday is old news, Sunoco here went to $4.239 this morning, gas here is now at $3.39.

No word from HBW yet, I'll see if I can find out something this afternoon.

By mid-day tomorrow we will have ridden 300 miles this week right in Jefferson County.
The riding has been fantastic everywhere.
Took a 10 mile blast down the Indian River while we were over Theresa way Tuesday.
That brought back fond memories of living right there with the river out back and having a 160HP 800 triple...:D
Rode right into the Cape and parked in the Village Green and ate lunch at Aubrey's across the street on Monday.
Both Mon. and Tues. were sunny all day with high temps in the upper 20*'s, and warm sun. Just beautiful.
Paul came down and rode with us yesterday...
Playing in some hedgerow drifts.
She missed all the "standing straight up in a cloud of powder "shots.

first of all:
between
the radiation
the asbestos
the PCB's
and other chemical exposure...

I don't think diesel really stands a chance of effecting me in any fashion.
Other than the smile I get when I'm on the power. :cool-smiley-026:

second: the 5338 miles worth of diesel fuel I've bought in the last two years (OK...April 1st it'll be two years) has definitely hurt.
Though when I've needed work done, it's been quite painless. ;)

My "daily driver" gets 30 MPG...and yours?
Makes me wanna run right down and buy a gas truck to drive every day...

third: you'll be laughing out the other side of your face shortly...
'cause not long from now, when this high demand unusually long (in comparison to recent years) winter is over in the NE and the diversion of diesel derivative refining by-product to home heating oil ends...
and gasoline demand starts to go up as it always does in the spring/summer
you'll be right there "stroking that pen" @ $4/gal on the street and $5 on the water.
while diesel goes back down to the 3.50 range...
wait and see
ye' old wise man.

First of all, I didn't write the article.

Second, I believe it is somewhat implied that you do actually have to start the thing in order to be affected in any manner.

Third, I could likely find a couple hundred bucks to buy a "daily driver", but why? I like my truck. Did this years ago, would put the hot rod up for the winter and buy something to drive till spring, we called them winter rats though.

Fourth, I know how much more efficient the black monsters are in comparison to the blue fuel suckers, bla bla bla, but why would I want to give up all that extra "fun factor" for the sake of a few dollars? If I wanted fuel efficiency in a boat I could buy a sailboat or a canoe. And likely these new fuel injected 525's will be more efficient than the old carbed 500's anyways, especially when combined with the more efficient hull design. Should actually be less money to run this new one.

Honestly 5P, I noticed Hottie before the Fountain banner, never let it be said that I do not have an eye for the finer things in life, and in their proper order. :D

BTW, Eliots got the better of the two hats, and per the news, his honey prefered he wear one, aparently in contrast to his preference.

There you go, you burn that diesel at $4.24 (Sunoco today) and I suck down some $5.00 marine petro. Could be worse, could still be mixing that AV gas with the 89 like in the old Velocity days, that chit must be 6-7 per gallon now. Times like this I really miss that flying hockey puck.

Over there in the corner, just sniff around for the stinky chit all over the ground, and you're there.

RaggedEdge 03-14-2008 06:39 PM

FYI BOYS,
Just watched the Channel 7 NEWS, Watertown N.Y., and they showed the Robinson Bay, the Seaway Icebreaker, starting it's trip up the river. Spring is just around the corner. :D
I do believe the boys on the Robinson Bay have their work cut out for them this year.

Anyone know if Axa has them blower motors running yet? Or has he been concentrating on "Pimp Daddy Racing"?

Just talked to Axa late yesterday. He's juggling both projects and both are coming along nicely. I don't know which one will be faster, the race boat or the "gentleman's boat"!!!!:cool-smiley-011:

Team Adrenaline Rush? wasn't that the name of Merola's race team back in the early 90's? C'mon, couldn't we be a little more original? That's like naming your bass boat "Bite Me".......

I think the $ bling could be recycled from the Roast Ragged Cause He Bought A Fountain event a few years back.

Snowmobiling is done for the season ....

Hello guys,

Lets get back to business here .....

First things first how is red headed step child with Fountain?
Where have the Sonic Boyz been hiding?
What the he!! are you diesel sniffers thinking ? A dollar more than gas per gallon ..... wish I had one ..... not !!!!
Did I leave anyone out ?

Just kidd'in guys ..... let's get this thread back up to top of the page and keep it up there.

Who wants to meet for beers and decide how bad Ragged is going to lose against Axa .....

Ooops there is that zinger again ...

"Lets get ..... Fired up !!!!" "Lets get ..... Fired up !!!"

Jeff

RaggedEdge 03-19-2008 11:56 AM

More blonde than red, but I'm fine, just been enjoying being able to spend these dreary days putzin with the boat.

I think the "TIBB Family Boat Shootout" is a non-event. But if you're buying :drink:, I'm in for some free booze and a little bench racing, oops, probably should refer to it as "bench cruisin". :D We can debate who can idle the longest on a gallon of gas, whether or not "Bling" adds to the speed of your boat or is that just an optical illusion. Or, here's one for you, would the step child Fountain Guy take on a real full blown race boat???

Did I mention that I generally drink 10 to 12 year old Burbon, preferably single batch, so pick a classy joint that will have some good stuff. No sense in having an impotent debate over rot gut whiskey.

5PMSMWHR 03-19-2008 03:32 PM

Not to stir the pot but Axa has almost all but guaranteed victory over the black shadow. :boat: "Formula Rules, Fountains are for the fools" is what i think he was saying last weekend.......................
