Well, back from Biloxi and still alive...Now I know why they call the SVL class the crash test dummies. What a ride, there are no words to describe going into the first corner with 8 other crazy azz boat racers. It was a trip.

As for the captions:

Carefull with that all encompassing comment there Speed Racer. I spent eight years in that flying hockey puck Velocity, I have see more wierd chit out of a hull than most ever will, and at a lot higher speeds than that OSS posted 74.85 mph. OSS listed the sea conditions as "FLAT", you need to man up here and get down to business on this job you signed up for. Ms. Jenni done put a whoop a$$ on you, and I believe it was her first time out of the gate, was it not? Maybe I should see if Doug needs a throttle man for Havasu.:D

You got the cash....run out and get one and join the Fun...It is nothing like running on the River. Last I checked, there are NO 90* corners that have 8 boats going into it at once 10 feet apart. Hell, buy back the Velocity and come race OPA with us in P-4. You only have to maintain 85 mph. Shouldn't be a problem for that sled...

As for the lap speeds...That is an average for the 4 of 6 laps we completed, including idling down the front straight away to get back to the pits. We were only off by 6 mph from the leaders. You have no idea what these things do on the race course...I guarantee it. But if you don't beleive me, join in the fun and see!

You can call Doug for Havasu, I'm sure he'll lease you a spot. Also, you will need a booster seat to see over the dash board, it's not built like a Fountain.

Per OSS the last place boat, which I believe broke, ran an average speed of 81.25, for the 3 laps that they finished, what did they do, break right at the finish line? So you saying if you were not trying to collect free beeeeers from JT as he blew by your lap speed would higher?

I was thinking he would pay me out of the big cash purse money we could win. :D And why would I need to see where I was going? Throttling is a seat of your pants "feel it" thing, sure don't need to see over the dash for that.

It was flat out f'kin dangerous.
They've corrected and policed all that out now. but it was hair-raising in it's day, to say the least.

There wasn't a speed zone on the day going to Gan past the light house! It was an accelerating and attempting passing zone once you tucked it in a little to bear to starboard out of the middle channel to pass the lighthouse on the straight line to Gan!
Damm narrow right there by/just past the lighthouse for a dozen very immediate boats with the sticks down and the trim running back up!
Nor was there going around (what is now the middle channel speed zone) via Ivy Lea!
Those marker pipes are damm close together (there only 70-100 ft apart on a recreational day) when everybody's going as fast as they can and still make that short 200* roudabout through there! Whoever gets out early headed straight for the middle channel again has a big advantage! Pushing for position amongst/ between those rocks and marker pipes is pretty special! Eat alot of exhaust water...remember no canopies!
Prior to that...Fiddler's (narrows) area was no respected speed zone and would go in around that rock cliff into the narrow (where all the houses are now) heading back down river
3-4 abreast carrying some good speed before HAVING to slow down. All about position coming around or out of tight areas!
Or the 90*to port at high speed around the end of Grindstone to head for the middle channel after coming straight NE out from Clayton.
Slid and hopped transom first over wakes making that there happen a number of times. You'de be carrying so much speed...then that course change is right there, oops...
Don't make the mistake of thinking anyone hasn't seen absolutely wild seat and wheeltime!
Especially with most of in in the V-kites of varying sizes! Fast, loose and light!
and all this not on a closed racecourse with safety boats!

not to mention all the times where you're running competitively hard/loose with boats of similar speed and capability...
and if there was 40' between you undoubetly somebody running 20-40 mph faster would split you...
you'd never hear them coming...
it would just startle the piss out of you when you already had your hands full to say the least.

You just hoped everyone was as good or better a driver than you were, and knew enough to make NO sudden moves regardless of water conditions!

First of all let's not start a debate over what was and what is now...

OSS is NOT bracket racing. OPA is. We are part of the OSS and plan to run some OPA events.

OSS Vee Lite are sealed, from Merc, 525efis in a 26'-32' boat with NO speed restrictions. So, most boats run between 88-93 mph depending on conditions and the hull design. It's about the corners and acceleration. Sound familiar? Not much different than NASCAR, but a little further apart in speed. Makes more exciting racing and alot more side by side. I wasn't aware that either of you have been in a Full Canopy boat before and ran a race. You really need to get in a canopy boat to understand the difference. Limited visibility adds to the Rush as well. The side mirrors help, but not too much.

You would have to get in one of these boats and run a race to understand, that's about all I can really say. In no way, shape or form does it compare.

You have said here exactly what I sat last night running thru my mind. And I can't help but think that those starts would not hold with eight boats running down the straight and into turn one, and not to put down Axas new adventure in any way here either.

Ah for the good old days, throw the green flag on a group of 150+ boats right in front of Gan for the thrill of the spectators. Then pray like he!! you could claim a hole to put your boat in when you started around Jackstraw Shoal. We might not have been "Pro Racers" but the level of competitive spirit amoungst the players was just as high.

If I wanted to race I'd buy this one, it's built for us short folks................:D

Not glass, which was a supprise to me when I was surveying things over. Smoked plexi of some sort, super clarity and no distortion at the curves like the Velocity. Somewhat wish it was glass, would have saved me endless hours of work buffing and polishing.

I know mine is not the canopied race boat version that Reggie offers, but I think she'll hold her own on the local amateur circuit. After all she's got them sealed, from Merc Racing, 525 EFI's, and, not meaning to one up anyone, I got me two of them, dyno tuned and all.:D

BTW You pick a launch date yet? I'm thinking in another couple weeks if this weather would change. It's supposed to be warming up this week again, hopefully that will open up a launch someplace around here soon. I think I may just fire them up this week, I love this heated storage building. :D

Fountain no longer manufactures a boat in a size that would fit in the class, the smallest or starter model is the new 33 Lightning for the '08 model year, in '07 the smallest model was the 35 Lightning / Executioner models, both are twin engine models which I believe are excluded in OSS SVL.

Formula does have single engine models in a size that would likely fit within the OSS SVL rules. It does make you wonder why they would not rig one up and hit the circuit.

Fountain does participate currently, as they have in the past, in all classes in which their products fit within the rules. And, as I'm sure you are aware, holds more National and World records and race wins than all other manufacturers combined. You should, as a racer, have access to this information. If you don't you could pick up a copy of any major performance boating publication, it's usually right there within the first few pages. Back in the day when Fountain did manufacturer smaller models they did participate in classes such as F-1, and held records and championships there as well. Currently Fountain will build you a full canopied race version of every model they manufactuer, excepting the new 33, rigged up and ready to run in any class you choose to participate in. Perhaps in the future Fountain will offer a smaller model thru the recently acquired Baja line that would fit within the SVL rules. Just think about that for a minute, you could get your a$$ kicked by a Baja by Fountain. :eek:

I wonder why Formula would not accomodate their customers in this same manner if they choose to participate in a form of racing???

Now here's a thought, Reggie could build and rig up a full canopied version of a smaller Baja Outlaw by Fountain and get Ms. Jennie to throttle it. That would be a real winning combination. You go there girl !!!

Well in a moment of weakness ,a week or so ago, he told me that the Whipple deal is a spoof, so if you're counting on the extra comming from them huffers you better find that guy that actually did have one on the kitchen table.

Really don't care, after I mail the check to the IRS tomorow I'm going to take a litttle F'off time, grab a coffee from Dunkin Doughnuts and take a dirve to a small nearby lake that I hear is ice free, to see if I can launch the boat there. If I can find a big enough puddle this things going to get wet this weekend. I just want to run this new toy. :D No Fourth of July for me this year.
