Just joined the forum so will start out with hello and this is one wicked forum!!! Looking at a 88 242SS Sat in Chattanooga. Pics look pristine shape. Any problem areas I need to be aware of. The speedometer does not work. Also trim gauge does not. Easy fixes? 7.4 engine. Anybody care to give me a ballpark as to fair price. I feel like a kid waiting on christmas til saturday. Thanks to all Gus

Im new to the forum and just wanted to say hi. i bought a 1988 242LS two years ago. i wanted this boat since i first saw it in 1988. It is running the Bravo 1 with the 365 454 Mag. It has roller rockers which i'm not sure are stock or not. It is also running a 177 Weiand that I just had rebuilt pushing 4lbs of boost at 6' (Flaming Gorge). It GPS 53 at just under 5Krpm turning a thinned 22" Bravo1 4 blade.

The 242 is a heavy boat and it takes torque to move it. Did you rebuild your SB or put a 330 BB in it? The props that I have found to work the best on the 242 up here in UT, WY and CO at higher altitudes are the Mirage and Bravo 1. If you are running an Alpha drive you will need to be easy getting out of the hole with these props. Guys say they slip, which they can but when they hook up its hard on a drive.
If you are running at 1K ft or lower I would think a newer design 19 Mirage Plus would be ideal but I would try one first if you can. A good propeller shop can usually work a SS prop to add or take away + or - 200rpm. This will cost about 1/2 as much as a new prop.
Good Luck!

I got my '85 242LS last month. Twin 350s, Aplha Ones. It came with Mirage Plus SS 19p 3 blades. Previous owner said he saw 59 on GPS. I haven't been able to verify top speed for several reasons - kids in the boat, no GPS, weather, etc. Speedo was low 50s. Will try soon. I was thinking about trying 21p. Not cheap though.
Unrelated note - I just replaced the Mercruiser flame arrestors with K&N 59-3362 flame arrestors. What do I do with the breather hoses?? Make a custom bracket to hold them on?
