I wonder if Fountain can say that. Now remember I also said Fountain was the fastest smooth water boat, before you get all defensive and critique someone you do not know.

isn't that the Fountain were the guy had owned it about all of 48 hours? I have several closeups of it. I believe he was thrown out. I also heard it was not insured. Really none of my business just curious. I believe it happened atleast 2 to 3 yrs ago.

Re: Fountain's new 38 does 106 with 600's?

Just want to help clear up some questions.

1) 109MPH with one person. Slow to get on plane.
2) 106 with five people and 70 gallons of fuel
3) Spacer put in to take lag out of coming on plane.
Will be tested again after MIAMI before it goes to new owners home. Should run consistant 104 with load.

The little fishing boats can!

"As has been said, these boats are just two different breeds and its a matter of picking what suits your needs.
I had a big learning curve when I bought my Fountain b/c I was used to 'rough = throttle back' on most hulls I had driven before. If you run a Fountain, you soon learn that 'rough = HAMMER DOWN'

On my first crossing to the islands with my new boat, my buddy boat was a 27 Contender with the exact power, twin 250 EFI Mercs. It was a SOLID 4-6 with the ever so often 'oh Sh*T' wave thrown in for good measure. I was struggling along at 20-22 knots and the ride was not good until this little voice in my head told me to heed my friends advice (he had turned me on to Fountains during my boat search).

So I did what he told me should be done, I dropped the tabs all the way down, told everyone to hang on (6 people total and gear/stuff for a week) and buried the throttles.

All of a sudden we were zinging across the top of the waves at 31 knots and the constant pounding subsided to an occasional BANG on the odd 7+ footer. My friend looked over at me with a "WOW!" look on his face and I knew right then and there I had made a good choice. About 10 minutes later my buddy boats hails me and tells me he can't keep up. So it was run for 30 minutes, slow to trolling speed, wait for him to catch up, repeat. When we got within 12 miles of West End, I radioed my buddy boat and told him I wanted to see what this boat can do, so I completely DUMPED the throttles and came into WE at 38 knots in 4-6. Probably could have done better with less of a load. And, once we got into WE, I checked the boat, no stress cracks, no kinks, etc. Toilet seat lid did come loose though...

When was the last time you saw Open Ocean Racing? Well, that's what they were designed for. Step up to this kind of water and you will understand what an Apache is all about.

Dont worry Fountains reign at the top of the racing circuit will
come to an end just like the builders before him.
Some up and comer will build a better mouse trap.

You obviously do not know this guy. We had real, weather service reported Lake Michigan style short spaced 6-8's last summer in August and Parnell was tearing it up. He was the only other boat I saw on the lake that day. It's hard for me to say how fast he was going but I could only muster about 50 getting our azz beat going with the waves heading south on Lake Michigan and he was throwing a full rooster balls out going north into them. It was the most awesome thing I have ever seen on the water.

I was in "Geronimo" , the 41' Apache with Sean Stinson driving the boat in good 4-6 footers running pretty hard...maybe 75mph and that thing was chewing up the water and spitting it out.
I have never been in a boat like it in rough water.

And by the way with the whole Fountain vs. Apache vs. Cigarette vs. etc. etc. etc.

I think there are some facts that no one can deny...Apache is the best rough water (big water) offshore boats ever made. Fountain is the fastest built hull (for now :D ) and in my personal opinion following Apache is Cigarette for rough water. other than that, it's just egos and a pissing contest.
