Hey Mike A....In rereading some of my earlier posts..do you think if I try REEEEL hard.. I might get to be as knowledgeable as that famous Canadian Race Car expert, I never heard of?

Von Wolske: By the way...This will interest you...we will have the original Popeyes 50 foot Aluminum Cougar Superboat in the Shop this weekend at Skaterfest.....It's being converted to a turbine powered pleasure boat and in about 10 years when it gets finished we can listen to it go Whoosh.

Gee Mike don't be "sad" that I can't match him on the specifics of Modern Day Offshore racing...... I'll just have to take a deep breath and shuffle on over the horizon.
We all make that trip sooner or later....
Some sooner...then later.

Ahh..... cut him some slack. After all, the Chairmanship of APBA offshore has chewed up and spit out just about everyone who held the position historically. I have been hearing charges of heavy handedness, dishonesty, ruthlessness, and autocracy since the 60's, with one exception, Gene Whipp. Sadly, while being the best at the job, it cost him dearly.
Mike A. is buried in a thankless task and I don't envy him, wouldn't trade places with him, and realize that, at best, he'll break even in this. For the sake of his mental health, I hope that "LLC" doesn't turn out to mean "Limited Life Concept" The fact that he is setting some kind of record at burning bridges is par for the course after 3 years in the hot seat. The bottom line is he wants it to succeed so badly he occasionally (frequently lately) throws the baby out with the bath water. I was on the committee that nominated him (actually put his name in nomination) and perhaps this is his way of gaining revenge.
Truthfully, I did mail in the announcing jobs for the past 2 years..Mike has a point.
I told him the strictly scripted, "MTV meets Travelog" format didn't grab me and I'm reeeely (poetic license taken) bad at "faking it". Couple that to the (my favorite phrase) mind numbing myriad of classes.... and I was , frankly, bored. Actually, I do watch the shows with the sound off at times.... Funny thing...They're worse. When Mike and I discussed the job, before he took it, we agreed that fewer classes were the only way to gain mass appeal. No doubt that is easier said then done...But it has to be done...in spite of racer and boat sponsor demand. Somewhere along the line the best intentions got reversed...the classes multiplied like randy rabbits.
I did stay true to one thing though, my life long passion for boat racing. I may not be on a first name basis with the newest team in Factory 1, or 2, or 3, or... But, I respect their enthusiasm and desire to enter the greatest sport on earth. I strongly believe however, that you have to earn your place in the sun, not inherit it because you bought one of the sponsor's hulls and look good in a race uniform. This is not an "age" thing...I realised this and respected it when I was younger than Mike.... Every time Billy Seebold (and yes...sigh.. Reggie) blew me away on a race course... I didn't whine about rule changes or more TV time... I just shut up and tried harder. That's what boat racing is about......real boat racing... not the Madison Avenue kind.
As to the technical side...We all can learn something new every day.... But I'll still insist on calling them "Lawn Darts"....
