Great Moments in Cat History

I still think he needs to take a lesson in humility and a Dale Carnegie course would not hurt his public image.
Maybe I don't see the BIG picture? All I see is what I see.
Andrew Corn seems like a real proffessional, Mike seams like..... a lawyer trying to win his point at the oppositions expense.
However, I have said it many times before, I respect the hell out of Mike for talking to this board. You could only imagine the pounding that Big John would take if he was to say hello from time to time.

T2x; Do you know af any turbine boats that will be at Ft Lauderdale. The more I look into this approach, the better it sounds.
I know you are just itching to tell us about the SAGE drives. Will it be at Fl Lauderdale.
Later on, I will fill you in on the turbine plan.

Turbines--- If you can maintain them, especially around salt water, the rewards are awesome. This Saturday when Mike Fusco showed up with his 170+ mph turbine "Jet Set"and lit up the "burners"... It was quite a sight. I watch him whistle around Barnegat Bay every weekend and marvel at the durability of his hull. Honestly, the guy "cruises" at 135. You see this rooster tail off in the distance, than it's on top of you, than it's off in the distance again.
The Sage drives were interesting. The concept appears to be correct. George L. and I pondered some structural "what ifs" but, since the aft strut is made out of a solid billet run through a 5 axis milling machine..."adjustments" should be simple. There are only 5 in existence and were made as part of a military bid offering (unsuccessful).... Peter Hledin saw the drawings, put them on 2 boats for testing, and the rest remains to be seen. Potential weakness seems to be whether or not Mike Sage can keep water out of the aft CV joint and the excessive (believe it or not) amount of adjustable X dimension travel.
Overall, I hope the concept works....and still believe it makes more sense than any other STEERABLE surface drive I've seen.
George Linder will post address details for Mike Sage. I on the other hand will go back to being obsolete and out of touch with new developments.....

T2x; Thanks for the info. I saw pics taken by Darren "Little T" and he sure did a nice job. I plan to sniff all the rudders at Ft. Lauderdale at the boat show.
The only remaining question is how did you conjure up such a nonsequitor code name? Or better yet, why?
Nice chatting with you and someday we will meet. 512 657 1104 if you get to Ft. Lauderdale show.

T2x, it was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you for putting the Skater Fest together. And, THANK YOU for the ride in your boat. That ride qualifies in my book as one of the Great Moments in Cat History!
I was fascinated by your comments while idling out concerning the safety issues addressed by the Lavin Foundation and took their guidelines home. I've read them and have more questions now than when I began. Combined with all the questions I left Saturday with, you and George should not be surprised if I pester you both with my ignorance going forward. I will apologize in advance and note that I am still learning and have a long way to go before I become knowledgeable about these powerboats we all love.

As T2X suggested I am posting the info. on Mike Sage, SCS Transmissions.
tel. 419-483-7278
fax. 419-483-4714
SCS Transmissions
739 W. Main St.
Bellevile, OH 44811
If you want more info. on the new drive or other Sage products give Mike a call.
Thought the Skaterfest was a blast and really enjoyed meeting everyone. The ride in the "lawn dart" was interesting the boat sure is different than a conventional "vee"
somewhere between a cat and a Vee.
I spoke to Peter Hledin today and told him to check out this site. He has not done so don't know what he is missing!
Darren, your web site is great you and Ron did a super job.
Keep those props rotating outboard. For those of you who are not convinced that the torque effect is negliable think about this.
A typical super cat engine makes about 700 ft lb of torque times the gear reduction of 1.61 or 1100 plus ft. lb of torque at the prop. If you don't think this amount of torque can have a meaningful effect on the safety of a boat guess again. Now think about blown engines with 1000 ft lb of torque
plus gear reduction producing 1500 ft lb of torque at the prop.
The misdirection of the torque with inboard rotation is the difference between recovering the boat when one prop is out of the water and rolling over with the help of the prop torque.

weren't those things outlawed, because they were so dangerous.
