I been in that OL with Brian driving and on the sticks. He is amazing and talented with that boat. Yea, he runs it loose but he sure is damn fast. Big balls, no fear, and hates losing!
|
Sounds cool as hell and like a lot of fun unill you either run out of talent or out of boat... bu then again, he is a doctor, he can fix himself, so no worries.

cheating has been around all sports since day one. reggie may just be a little bigger cheater lol. in all honesty, who really cares? let them run and race, not many left who can afford to do the sport. if they get caught then they get disqualified, simple. there is already to many politics, rules and regs in the sport. it's just nice to see them all run

And therein lies the conundrum . Do you possess the talent and the balls to keep it out of the wall so to speak . You with your previous racing experiences should know full well that is the razors edge you must ride to be a consistent WINNER in all motorsports . That kind of talent is special and rare .

OK, my boat goes 85 on the inter-coastal and in 3 footers on the ocean and I might get ejected but the boat in mention is a closed canopy.. I've been 115 in a 28 outboard skater and 110ish in a 42 outerlimits. Over 100 in a Fountain 42.
What can go wrong in a straight line... if its loose. Isnt loose good? I am serious - I just dont understand. I've raced Motorcross and you get outta control in the whoops, raced quads and get crazy on table tops. Drag raced and never crashed but got loose for 100 yards... I'm just a dumb Hungarian, help me out... |
Loose = trip and stuff. Flatter the boat is, faster the boat is. The more that bow is in the air, the slower you go. Running as loose as possible up to that point, is good.

Ever see see a 38 Fountain with big steps go thru a corner at 95mph.
I say 95 because at 90 you hold on and pray, at 95 you watch your azz pass you. |

I think we almost ran you over that time.
|
Hell, today warpath was going straight and managed to mow down a 3000 pound giant green bouy. Those guys are damn lucky they went up and over instead of being impaled.

Seriously, that helps alot. I try to figure out what you guys go through on the race course and can never grasp it. When things get ****t$ in my boat I back off the throttle. I am just trying to live vicariously through you for literally 1 second. Cool stuff! Videos do justice but you cant "feel" what you are going through... Actually it is really interesting. (you M'fers in open cockpits are really REALLY interesting or crazy...) |
I think the boys in the Sunprint boat deserve some recognition. They have been right on the heels of the outer limits in both races. They lost by 5 seconds today. I wouldn't call that getting left as some people seem to think. If you look at the lap times the only lap with any real difference in speed is the first lap. After that their speeds are almost identical. It's a shame they are running the short course. I wouldn't be surprised if the old extreme was out front of the outerlimits in the rougher water

Steve and Gary have done an excellent job hangin with the OL. But what makes you think the OL was not just towing them along?

If you watched the video of the two races Bruce it sure appears that the OL was on the edge of catastrophe every single second. Tabs all the way down, bow steering, nearly hooking, chine walking, etc. Maybe Steve and Gary were stalking the prey. They were flying straight and true, never out of shape, always in control, and after two races only 13 seconds behind. If the water is rough, and the course and total distance go back to normal on Sunday, I'd say the OL guys will have to race even more out of control to win. Here's to hoping its really, really rough!
|
Maybe Matt (sugarcoat it) Truilo will explain that dragging the tabs will make the boat so much faster. Look at the Fountains, not dragging the tabs like in the past, and now in the back of the pack.
|
Not that I know about such things, buuuuuut, usually dragging tab and running fast means lots and lots of power. I've never seen anyone run a boat that out of control and not slow down or crash. I heard a great line yesterday -
"the OL did crash, many times, they just managed not to hit anything." Seriously though, those guys are completely out of their minds nuts to run that hard and out of control. Kudos to them! |

Those guys are running the dog s*** out of that boat. Geico, Stihl and Snowy mountain are not leaving anything on the table, if they don't win I don't think anyone can say they didn't let it all hang out, sure is fun to watch. You gotta root for the under dogs too though Sun Print, WHM, and CMS(hard to call them under dogs with two 1650 powered boats just in case) are sure are keeping it interesting. I have only been watching this for the past few years and this is by far the best competition I have seen.
|
The OL drives away with a victory and puts distance on the field every lap. Looks like about a 23 second victory today:champs:

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...-come-end.html from the official results: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 MARKER 17 MARINE – EQUIPMENT NOT LEGAL |
They got caught cheating... again.
Word in the pits is illegal cam/lifter, among other things. |

Word in the pits is illegal cam/lifter, among other things. 5.8.1.3.3 CAM: Any hydraulic roller cam with a maximum intake lift of .610 inch and exhaust lift of .632 inch measured at the valve with zero lash is the only cam allowed, with an OEM stock gear timing chain, no belt driven timing chain systems are allowed. Variable cam timing not allowed. It must have been some performance gain to justify the risk. |
Not knowing the rules for the engines, I would think a bit more was out of the range than just a cam and lifters ? Saying this as they always seemed to be way ahead of everyone else in the class all the time
|
They need to measure the cylinder heads next.
|
I would like to hear the actual Tech inspectors report vs generics.
|
If you don't think teams are bending/breaking the rules all the time your crazy. These guys just aren't very good at hiding it :p
|
What did they get caught saying there Fountain was 2 feet longer than it really is???
|
Well they won again today so what is the story now.
|
Maybe tech will pull a cylinder head and get dq'd again.
|
yup they will find out today too..............all this done to win a tin cup
|
It was a great race today 4 top boats finished with in 15/20 sec.
