this thread is what makes me sick about the internet and oso. i feel like these post are started and made by a bunch of liberal witch hunters. you know a group of people with zero experience in the situation at hand handing out their solution to a problem they cannot understand much less comperhind. mechanical devices to prevent the actions of two boaters determined to not let the other boater be faster than themselves. oh i know, spinning in is the problem as everything t2x says is gospel and forward thinking. no its the spectators that are at fault. no no, its the people with more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ than i have so thats the problem as no one should have that much money. lets impose regulations on the rich and fast boaters so they can be as slow as my boat. roll bars, saftey cages, gyro's (obviously no one knows that those things have to a mass in order to have an effect and the mass generally starts at 2,000 lbs, yea a ton) you really want to comment on your solution to this? i mean do you trust your life and happiness in the hands of liberals?

This quest to solve the cat blow over problem by input from experienced owners is a worthy venture, but OSO is probably not the best forum at the moment.
I suggest those seriously interested get together at boatdesign.net where I've noticed some engineering guru's hang out and start up a thread on it?
This is no single builders problem, and shouldn't be approached as such. If discussed openly and reasonably, I'm betting experienced engineers will jump onboard. The reasons are clearly mentioned earlier in this thread, it's certainly a hot industry topic today. Any "design issue" is solvable, the technology is readily available, put some smart heads together and everyone wins. Plus, many young college students live for these opportunities. They also come with the coolest tools, software, and even wind tunnel access to test theory.. ya dig?
Would love to see those serous about this join together and offer up some sunny seat time in exchange for open collaboration on the topic. Lets see what comes from it. Anything is gonna be better than outlawing fast roadsters everywhere, or self insurance for those who own them.
Hope this reaches some interested ears

I honestly feel threads like this only make a bad situation worse. This is a public forum with eyes outside of our sport/hobby. I think posting these videos (all in one place) and finger pointing, just gives more ammo to the insurance police and officials that would rather see our sport regulated up the ass. I feel if the lawmakers start getting involved, they won't be putting 100 MPH speed limits, they will be 45 MPH.
Are there issues that need to be addressed, absolutely. I just don't think this helps the situation. Rules and regulations need to be implemented and enforced by the promoters of the runs. Florida Powerboat club and Poker runs America have regulations and they preach safety. neither has ever had a accident with loss of life. Their runs are in open water with no speed limits.
Each venue is different and should have rules for the conditions.
I was friends with Brad. it was a tragic accident that never should have happened and I'm sick about it.

You're not a new guy to the forums so why act like a DB? They had no more rights on the water than others. They had no more privilege on the water than others. I absolutely have compassion for the result and its sad, but not the prior exhibition. By the way.....poker running is a hobby, not a sport. There are no scores or teams. It is supposed to be for fun and charity.

And PRA preaches safety ?????
They had two crashes this year with the same boat at speeds over 180 in a section of the St Lawrence that's half as wide as the channel here in question.
And if that boat owner hesitated for two seconds about signing up for next year the PRA people would faint.
Rules ???? There aren't any rules.

Your referring to My way running all by himself, in open water with no one around him?
I thought we were talking about running too close to spectators and endangering others.
