I'm with you on this Mild! I got caught out in the Manitou Passage years ago in my 28 Checkmate, wind kicked up and when we were down in the troughs we could not see the horizon, took water over the bow every wave( thank God for the windshield) wife and kids were screaming at me as I headed toward the safe harbor at Leland MI. in the following sea. All I will say is until someone experiences the Fury of the Great Lakes they can't and won't understand it!! I have a much larger vessel now but when the lake kicks up I stay in a protected area! Only I prefer Belvedere over Grey Goose LOL.

Awe Mike it's only a lake. The waves don;t get big.I wimped out that day. We left the Ditch heading toward East Chicago for the start of the run. When I was in a trough I could not see the lake. I am 6;6" and was standing.I managed to get turned around and put my SH back on the trailer. We went to the poker run site and watched a bunch of boats come in with big cracks.

I've been there too. Water coming over on every wave. Nobody had a tape measure but we all knew it was some big chit. Just happy to make it home.

4 footers at the most. No way anything bigger than that. In 8 footers you get lost in the bottom of the trough - all you can see in any direction is water. Been there done that. I have a video of my 34 SCARAB out in two / three footers at speed and the water doesn't look much different than that video.

Lake Michigan is no joke and the waves get big.

I believe Scott at pier 57

I invite all you keyboard cowboys to come attempt boating on the great lakes during a rough day THEN you can comment!
