If you really want a rush, get a old Cigarette, and chase down cruiser wakes on a inland lake every weekend. Have your buddies film your boat launching with the nose pointed towards jupiter. Then come on oso and tell everyone how your boat eats up rough water and what a killer throttle arm you have.

2006 and 2007 were the bumpy ones. Off the top of my head...delaminated, broken stringers on a Nor-tech cat, two delaminated Skaters, hullside blown out on a 38 Flatdeck, anchor pierced hull through locker on a 42 Fountain, deck separated from hull on a 38 Formula, busted mirror, icebox on BZs 42 Fountain, Zastrow almost sank his MTI after a hose was pounded off, Payton was knocked to the floor of my Fountain and had back surgery later...and I'm sure there was more. I heard that Poker Face Baja was stress-cracked all to hell after this run...that dude ran the CRAP outta that boat...

i have seen ROUGH WATER at loto on some weekends but you can continue if you drive safely.on lake michigan things can change quickly and you can get in trouble in a hurry.i remember putting in at east chicago years ago,we got out of the breakwall and it looked pretty rough,me being the tough guy i was going to show my buddys how good a 32 baja can handle big waves, that lasted about 30 seconds.it was solid 6 footers with an occasional 8 footer and it scared the shiit out of me.i quickly learned to respect, and fear the great lakes when it gets ugly.

great lakes dont have a trough lol they are square waves, 5 ft high, 5 ft apart!!
4 footers at the most. No way anything bigger than that. In 8 footers you get lost in the bottom of the trough - all you can see in any direction is water. Been there done that. I have a video of my 34 SCARAB out in two / three footers at speed and the water doesn't look much different than that video.

Screen capture from the 2007 Chicago Poker Run. It was solid 4s with an occasional bigger hole that day...not as bad as 2006. I came down from the hotel room early and launched the boat myself that morning, and while I was down there, I decided to stick my nose out and see what it was like. When I got back up to the room, my wife was just waking up. First thing I said to her was "We don't HAVE to do this. We are only going to go as far as you are comfortable, I have no problem with that." She was concerned, but still wanted to run. We tucked in behind the OSO Top Gun at the beginning of the run and let them beat down some of the waves, but then I got a little crazy and went out on my own. With stock 502s, that Fountain would run 72 mph topped out...I was running about 60-65 in those waves to stay on top, and we were having a BLAST. I slowed down to 50 at one point, and my wife yelled "What did you do????" I said..."I slowed down, why?" She said "Well speed back up, we are getting the $hit beat out of us!" Made it all the way to Michigan City and back...we were one of the smallest boats to do it, too. Couple shots Michelle took at the card stop in Michigan City...

2007 was also the first year the Okie boys rolled up. They had some colorful language describing Lake Michigan as well! The boats that ran out front in the morning were both Skaters...Jim Lee followed by Brandon Lee...
Had to get the perspective shot of my boat and trailer next to US-1 the day before the run. My Fountain looks like a bathtub toy! Lol.
