none of- the magnums 38 f-t & up diesel only Besides the novel use of high-performance marinized diesel engines, Filippo had the new idea of installing surface drives on his Magnum performance boats. He met Howard Arneson, the inventor of the Arneson surface drive, at a boat show and was immediately convinced of the technical advantages of this new drive. Howard is one of the major innovators in the marine world. The new surface drive brought more speed, less drag and better fuel efficiency to boating and, after Filippo had met Howard and demonstrated the advantages of the surface drive to his friends and clients, every Magnum thereafter was equipped with this new drive system.

Filippo also consulted with his friend Phil Rolla to build the most efficient customized propellers for these new surface drives. The collaboration between Howard Arneson, Phil Rolla and Filippo with the Magnum hull created the fastest and most technologically advanced vessel of its time. In 1980, Filippo started working with the famous Italian designer Pininfarina of Ferrari fame and in 1983 the first Magnum 63’, designed by Pininfarina was launched. With diesel power, surface drives and Rolla propellers, the Magnum 63’ was the fastest, most fuel efficient, most seaworthy yacht in the world.

I think Steve has new power, engines, dry sump drives and other goodies ready to install in Allez Vite. A fabulous Apache Powerboat with race history. Very nice indeed.

SOO by the post 120 3rd picture down the big secret of the Apache strength is in the Ring Frames. Well They have been around in cold molded racing sailboats since the 1800s , In Fact I think the Pinta Apache which is never spoken of reached the west Indies / America ,days ahead of the rest of the fleet and wiped out every other Indian in the territory
.

Thanks for putting pictures of her up Ed, I don't have dry 6's for her, I have been buying land instead of boat part the last few years. She's an amazing boat, they all are, center steering #6 race set ups are m favorite.

What they're worth, What some people think they're worth and what they sell for are 3 different things.

I'll start by saying I'm a big fan of old school apaches. But let's be honest. Some of the prices people ask for a 30 year old resin bucket is ridiculous (thus they sit). But like the old saying goes, there's an a** for every seat. Align the stars right with a seller who loves the heritage of apaches and a buyer who loves the heritage and sometimes the high price gets met.

What's a 30 year old quality built boat worth with decent power in good condition with 6's or 3a's really? 60-80k. Anything over that, you're paying for the name.

With that said, the old Gucci 41 in the classifieds seems like a good buy. Surprised it hasn't sold.

That's a short stag. That's Dennis when he owned it which is brother of Ellis the owner of the Spirt of Apache. He sold it a while ago. Good looking 41 pleasure.

Yes, I've seen it when I visit relatives and friends in LBI, NJ. I believe an OSO member owns it. Nice 41 Apache pleasure, runs the Atlantic Ocean beautifully, plus creature comforts.

I believe Allez Vite and Warhawk were two of the first offshore powerboats to get the then new K Drive. At the Javits Center the 45 Apache/Kid race boat was incredible, an awesome triple engine Apache with these monster drives. Stole the show in my book. Offshore Powerboat engine hp was on the rise also.

Interceptor 07-27-2014 10:40 AM

Could someone describe a K drive ? Never heard that term.

Do you have any pics of Tatonka's cockpit? Looks like maybe a removable bolster on the right side?

Nykamp 07-27-2014 02:21 PM

It would take $60 to $80,000 or more to buy the power in most of theses boats Ed's posted. I think the former owner of mine said he paid $75,000 each for my motors when Richie first built them.

Nice fresh power for Allez Vite! Inter cooled too. That's going to look great under those race hatches, sound right and make Allez Vite run awesome! Love it!

Yeah, I'm going from memory here RM. but I believe the owner put it in the garage, hooked up the battery charger and the boat caught fire. Possibly had a heart attack when he witnessed it. I also believe the guy restoring Straight Arrow bought it ( and other Apache Powerboats) with the intention of restoring it. A super Apache Powerboat fanatic. Rogerthat99 stops by his warehouse/shop and takes some great pics. I hope I got most of that info right.
