Rings were gapped at.035.... that's great for blow by....I wanna say last engines I did were set at .018..

Someone did a test years back on a sbc, dyno pulls and street miles. With grossly oversized ring gaps it only used something like half a quart more oil over 5,000 miles. .035 may not be right but it's not the end of the world.

I was using a quart every weekend with a decent amount of abuse, and the blow by was bad enough to push oil past seals and make a mess of the bilge EVERY weekend, sucked when it rained I had to keep bilge pumps off or people would hate me.... I am fixing all this crap...

That prob had more to do with the cylinder wall finish than the end gaps.

I saw this on one of my motors. The rod was slightly bent allowing it to barely hit the crank on the bottom of the stroke.

Looking at the crank, looks like chit got wedged between after rod tossed...
