Their are more perks to having a slip than you can think of, I'm on my 5th season of being a seasonal slip holder with our 38 fever and would not trade it for living off the trailer again. Everytime I type out the perks of it I end up getting logged out and I loose my response cause it takes too long. If ya want to here them I can pm ya my number .

Well it's sounds like you are totally over Wrenching.
A Black Thunder with Triple out drives will be just that much less of a mechanical nightmare and feel like a Turd after your Cigarette.
The 40 SS has the high cruising speed you want but you can't always run 40 mph in a cruiser because of conditions.
If your going to go to a Slipped boat take a serious look at the Formula 41 PC. With a pair of 440 yanmars.
Not as high of a top speed as the SS but a sustainable cruising speed that is equal and with the extra weight it has it will be able to run faster in rougher conditions.
Also it has a real step down into engine room accessible from the swim platform . The yanmars will not need to be touched except for oil changes and with big shaft drives in pockets you have shallow water capability with all the reliability.
It's a real Cruiser , with real Running Gear. Not the toy 496/bravo crap that is stretched for this application.

How hard can it be to trailer a 38 Fountain sport cruiser/ Looks like you have the dually already .. BT is a nice boat.( never been on one ) But it's bigger slower than your ( motorhead rig) The bad aszz cig.. For me... I would rather have something that is More HP than the other guy. I would see boats like you and I have, and not be as happy with less performance than I had.. That being said.. YOu are getting into a family boat. Why not make it the best for the family. ( cruiser) And some hp 500's or something that sounds good. You are not gonna win any races, but at least you got your motor head stuff still mojoin'.. You could always trailer from you marina ( slip) to different places once in a while

WOW... I thought I was bad about "over thinking" stuff..
No matter what boat you get there will be something you would like to change.
Go buy a boat if its the perfect boat for you keep it, if not sell it and buy a different one.

Storage alternatives for a big wide cruiser.
My brother has a 30 year old 39 Searay that looks like the day it came off the showroom floor.he is the pickiest SOB you could ever meet.
So anyways he built a 4 axle transport trailer for his 39 Searay . Built on a budget with mobile home axles and no springs
He boats out of holland and keeps his boat at the old Chris Craft plant. Heated inside and it's got to be reasonable or he wouldn't keep it there.
Nice deep boat ramp 1 mile from the plant at the end of Macatawa. He pulls it out with his half ton 4wd Chevrolet and his wife on the throttles until it clears the water.
Easy Peasy
I can check on storage availability and costs if your interested. Gotta be cheaper than Chicago area.

I have the mind set that I hate to pay someone for something I can do and if I want it done right I better do it my self.

A nice 1 ton dully used for towing only will last a life time, unless you are on the poker run circuit.
