I am flying into Orlando Sept 16th (hopefully), if there is anything anyone needs that I can get on a plane I know there probably isn't much but if there is anything message me I can meet you anywhere in Florida if it is needed. Hope everyone makes it through the storm with no major issues.

Now calling for 8-12ft storm surge thru Naples to FT Meyers Beach. They even specifically said even back waters not just the gulf side.
FYI: even calling for Lauderdale (east coast) to see 16hrs of 100+mph winds.
And yeh, they are all saying this is the probability, still a decent chance the hurricane does something different.
I agree Knot4Me - Please take a hook Irma...prove the more likely forecast wrong.

God dammit ! Gonna reach Cat5 by the time it hits the shore and I'm sorry to break the news, as I have 3 sets of family in FMB (including my mom!) and Naples, plus a bunch of friends, + a ton of people I know...some reason most everyone from here buys winter places in that area..well I know why, it is beautiful, but that particular corner of FL...uncanny.
Anyway - they are now predicting the eye to go right up thru The Keys,MarcoIsland, Naples, FMB, Fort Meyers, and I'm assuming Cape Coral where a lot of OSO members are. The whole damn west coast. They eye is almost 45 miles wide. So, even those on the east aren't safe.
Be safe Omerta One ! Be safe everyone.......fuk,fuk, fuk ! Excuse the french.

I'm waiting permission to tear my house down. I'm in a water way. Really it wasn't that way when I bought it. My house is destroyed so I'm trying to rebuild. It's been a year an a few weeks. I'm tired of being home less

Go West young lady- Head West.
Coast of Cuba is taking a beating , fortunately not in a very populated area of it . Hopefully the mountains shear some of the strength out of it at best for now.

I am glad to see that for the most part, the east coast/Miami will be spared the brunt of the storm. While still allot of danger, a direct hit would have been horrible.
That said, those of us with homes on the west coast are not looking very good right now. I am safe and sound in Iowa, but it appears that our home in Cape Coral may take a direct hit. Marco to Tampa could be pummeled pretty badly by the looks of it. I hope to hell that everybody heeds these warnings and finds safe refuge. We are getting a plan together to load up a truck with supplies and come down late in the week to figure out how to move forward.
For everybody in all of Florida, our thoughts are with you and please be safe!

Been up since 4 am in Michigan watching and tracking so I can advise my ex in Naples where to hide in her condo.
She was busy covering for the 100 employees on Thursday who evacuated from her work on Tuesday.
Insurance business requires you be available after the storm so getting stranded out of town for weeks is not a real option either.
She lives on the second floor of a 3 story condo that is 2 miles inland . Well built out of concrete with concrete floor above her so if the trussed roof blows off the third floor she may be wet but not out in the open air.
I read over the mitigation and even though it was built before Andrew it does have straps on all the trusses, so hopefully the roof stays put.
A well built and engineered dwelling makes a big difference as does the direction the susceptible side of the dwelling takes the brunt of the wind.
its a 20 foot wide tunnel with just 2 small windows and a entry door on the north side. South side has a big patio door in the living room and a small window in the master bedroom.
If it had hurricane shutters on it I would feel a lot better. Got her hiding in the north bathroom when the chit starts to hit the fan.
My 87 year old dad and his dog are leaving his poorly designed house in an hour and heading over to the exs. He would not leave on Tuesday and head north when I told him to. Sitting in traffic for 24 hours with no where to stay when he got north was not a good option by yesterday.
so he was stuck. The shelters are a joke. Germaine arena is mobbed.
my little 1960s shoebox house in inland Bonita will not flood as it is elevated above all the other houses. But it blow away like nothing.
If I was in town I would have taken a couple thousand feet of the leftover from the parasail days 3/8 Spectra and wrapped the house and roof.
There is no where to run so buckle down.
