Big Thunder ordered some 400s for me Feb 10. We were told 13 weeks, suppose to arrive May 13. Delayed a few weeks ago, and was told May 29. Will check later this week to see if there is another delay, hopefully not. But appears about 15 weeks.

for boat. You have a long wait |
for those of us who have not started our build....at what point do they place the order for the motors? Assuming a 6-10+/- month build, why don't they order motors ASAP in anticipation of the delay for delivery? I can understand storage space but, at least the motors are waiting to be rigged and not vice-versa?
|
Motors
my boat started end of October and the 350s were also 10/17. My understanding is that nor tech is the largest purchaser of 350/400 motors from mercury nor tech has some very very close ties at the top |

Remember this still is the boat business........any guesses how long a storage room full of new in the box Merc 400s would last before someone steals them? My brother in law had 60+ props stolen from a yacht factory.....some new, some used and they probably ended up in a scrap yard for pennies on the dollar of what they were worth. A few missing sets of new in the box 400s would be a hard hit to take for a boat builder. Even at a cost of 25K per motor if you lose 6 motors that is 150K gone. |
Out allsay
trust me the boat is worth the wait!!!! Went to Annapolis blue angels show. Fantastic. All the boats leaving was like a mild hurricane. Lol. Went right thru it cruised a long. Anyway. 6 or 8 months like I said it’s worth the wait. |

NASCAT, they crew at the factory showed me the spring loaded arms on my last visit, we discussed powder coating them to blend into the gel coat. I don’t want the hydraulic lifting table, I don’t like that it sits above the floor when it’s down. Question: Could you store the filler starboard/cushion in the cabin when you weren’t using it? I’m hoping to be able to bring it along out of the way on long trips. They mentioned the option to drop the hydraulic table flush with the floor is being designed, but not an option yet. |

In my experience when you make your 2nd payment engines are ordered, which usually occurs when the boat finishes in lamination and is popped from the mold. Final payment made upon delivery. |
A NT 340 build typically takes 4 mos from the time they spray the mold. You can't start the timer the day you sign the sales order w/ the dealer. All that does is lock you into a production slot that the dealer already has or is about to secure for $20k.
I sold my 340 in Feb, John Kray of Sportboats Marine offered me a production slot he already secured w/ a deposit. At the time Miami Boat Show was on, hull 187 was in the mold. My $$ is on hull 206. I checked in today & hull 198 starts next week so I'm still 8-10 weeks from beginning lamination. If I secured a deal w/ Sportboats Marine today for hull# 206 my overall time wait time would be less but actual build time about the same, 4mos. They are building a new 50,000 sq ft shop to rig boats + adding a second spray booth both of which I hope speed up production. |
Man I now that .. I could have sold mine recently for goood money but I would have been without a 39 for a year. That idea was vetoed. |

Gator- when you place your deposit does not determine your production date as dealers have deposits on build slots way in advance so while you may be ready to pull the trigger it might be worth your time to see what build slots your local dealer has or your timing may not work out. IMO your boat would have to start closer to Nov to benefit from a MIBS release, any sooner and they'll already have engines hung on it. Your dealer can help you work through the specifics they know way more than I.

Gator
great advice. Your dealer has to have a slot or you won’t get one next year. They put deposits on build times. My understanding they are into November of this year for start dates. You wait until August you won’t see a boat until November of 2019 if your lucky |
34' Nor Tech
I was at Nor Tech May 15th and Geoff told me my 34' would go into rigging the following week, but didn't give me a finish date, any idea's when? Guess?

Memorial Day & 4th of July holidays can also contribute to delays. They are building a new building specifically for rigging so any transition to it may also cause a delay. Eventually the new building and 2nd spray booth should yield efficiencies. My guess is Mid-Oct |
Thanks for getting back, The boat is finished lamination, the deck is glassed to the hull, t top is there. I had Jan.1st slot they said 16 week build I was ok with that, but its been one delay after another. Nothing I can do but wait. Its Hull # 134

Rob. Delays. !!!
get your head ready for delays. My boat came out of mold around 3rd week of October. Was told February delivery Then mid March. Then end of March. Then April 15tj. Nope. Got the boat may 11th. That close to seven months.!!! Great product. But on delivery they over promise and under deliver |
GREAT. Not what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the heads up.
|
I was anticipating an early March commencement, but just hit the mold two weeks ago. Frustrating, but nothing we can do about it. As long as the final product remains as good as they’ve been, will be worth the wait. |
Do you know what your Hull # is?
|
34-151 I believe |
