That said, Chapter 11 bankruptcy is among the laws of the land and, while it challenges everyone involved, it beats debtor prison.
Crime vs punishment.. would a debtors prison make people be more careful knowing the results? When credit is handed out in the form of mail out credit cards i pets names etc.. whats wrong with affixing a sentence to fraud?

Looks like Mike finally got off his ship quarantine!

Canals are always no wake, Mike doesn't have a bad idle out, maybe 10-15min. Takes me 20 min and for some reason my wife is never ready! She is still cleaning and whatever,,,,, its funny really.

I’m still at work. That was right before I came back. Looking like they’ll let us off next week

Bummed that you guys have turned even this into yet another political positions/doomsday thread. I think we all have enough places to read that **** outside of a boating forum. Very disappointing to see it from journalists that would otherwise not get engaged in this bull****. What ever the fck is occurring with this mess, turning each other against ourselves is NOT what should be happening here.

yes. Boats full. It’ll be a month next week. Supposed to let us crew change. I don’t want to cheap gas. Lol. I’d be much happier burning $5.00 a gallon gas.

While fraud is a crime, not all bankruptcies are the result of fraud. If fraud leads to bankruptcy and it is provable, it should—you're absolutely right—be prosecuted.

Bankruptcy law in this country dates back to 1800 (https://www.bankruptcydata.com/a-history-of-bankruptcy) (Really good read if you're interested.) It has undergone various revisions ever since. If you don't like the laws, and I say this a business person who has lost money to more than one bankrupt business, by all means work to change them.

Smart people disagree on the efficacy of punishment as a deterrent to crime. But as long as bankruptcy is permitted under the laws of the land, I'm not sure I see the point in engaging in that one.

As far as I know, I'm the only journalist in this thread—so I guess you're referring to me. Threads in this community go sideways all the the time. I merely (and civilly for that matter) observed—from professional experience—that despite legality or benefits for the bankruptcy filer, being on the creditor side of equation is less than pleasant. Mr. Trump was the example cited. I wrote nothing "political," much less that could be construed as offensive to him or anyone else from that matter.

There's nothing wrong with civil discussion. In my opinion, our country could use a lot more of it.
