I,m going to install the kit within a few weeks, and post a pic when its finished. You where in trucks also right ? I,m from Holland Europe, known as sterling from the UK forum. I,ve got a Isotta Fraschini 450 hp V6 Bi turbo diesel for sale ,if you have anybody thats intrested ? I,m not that far from you. We got some of those V6s around here too. Nice engine but parts are pricey... IŽll keep your engine in mind , and how much for it ? PS what do you pull with your dodge (Ram 2500 or 3500?) a 38 foot boat? |

PS what do you pull with your dodge (Ram 2500 or 3500?) a 38 foot boat? I pull my 26 ft cat ,and my sonic 28,not that heavy ,but I like to drive a truck thats modified, cause if its stock its a dog. I need 5000 for the IF ,its a ID 38 6V SS,year ,86 and I have a ton spare parts with it. Can I post a pic here ? A.J |

Yes you can post a pic and please do. IŽve done it since day one. Boatmad, ok great gallery but OSO is even better plus loads of info here, now that you mention it I seem to recall you..sort of. Well and IF at 5000...not bad, any info on hours? But where to put it...where does it fit :evilb: ? A guy here had triples on a 46 footer Navy prototype with Arnesons. The engines are stashed and an Army buddy used to work with that boat & engines. The boats have different engines as we speak. might even be the boats are scrapped, they were made of plywood and meant to be disposable in crisis. I have a lead on some ASDs... will take a look at them this week. Now I need only a project hull, No Wellcraft thank you, my wife tells me to get a complete boat not a project. Well she knows me...:D :bunny: |

Thnx. I thought it would be in boats about 10-12m range and performance around 60+ with full gear.
Homeland security I presume? Pix? HereŽs a fast one with diesels: http://fbdesign.it/c55.php |
check out the zodiac website, they have pics there of the diesel setups they sell to the govt. homeland security uses them, the navy also uses them overseas right now to, very cool boats

Impossible. The very best diesel efficiency is 21 HP per gallon per hour. That means about 20 gph at 425 hp would be the lowest gph you may see. 18 hp per gallon per hour is far more typical. at cruise, and 14-16 flat out,
So if you could actually go 100 MPH with only 850 HP (very, very unlikely) then your fuel burn will be about 60 gph, or about 1.5 mpg. But you won't be that fast, and you won't be that efficient at top HP.

For comparison: a gasoline engine at peak fuel efficiency (at the torque peak) might just possibly hit 12 hp per gallon per hour, but 10 is far, far more likely. At peak HP, gas engine efficiency is down to about 8 hp per gph on a low power engine, and as low as 6 hp per gallon per hour on a high HP blown engine (they lose a LOT of efficiency at high RPM).
Gas or diesel, your best hp per gph is at torque peak (that's why its peak torque -- the engine is most efficient). A big advantage of diesel over gas is that the torque peak is flat and close to peak HP, so you back off to 80% or 75% and you are fuel efficient. Gas engines usually have the peak torque at about 3000 to 3500, so you are at 50% to 60% speed for efficient cruise. In my boat I have a pair of 496's (375hp ea.) I get 1.5mpg at 90mph (WOT) and 1.95mpg at 70mph (4000 rpm). |

Well she knows me...:D :bunny:[/QUOTE] Well I don,t know how many hours ,this was a spare engine from a 42 ft Tulio Abatte ,the guy sold the boat ,and I bought the engine. I was trying to put it in a 30 ft rib with a 2 speed gearbox, and put bigger turbo,s and bigger injectors and some pump mods, and like the Italians did in 1989, crank 850 hp from the engine. But I have so many unfinished projects ,that I only can hope I am getting very old . I still can,t find how to post a pic here, maybe because I,m a rookie here I,ve been limited in my post, I don,t know ?????? A.J |
How many hours would a 500hp / 900tq. DURAMAX be able to survive in a marine installation. In a normal use where you might cruise at 50/60 % power most of the time and then BALLS TO THE WALLS some of the other times?? CHEERS AW
