So this Nordic is getting trawler mileage at 60 mph??
:lolhit: I think Diesel World needs to check their flow meter calibration. Michael http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvd-w...5&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l0-n...1&feature=plcp She gets 7.5 to 8.5mpg cruising 50-60mph with a 1:26 ratio drive and 37p prop. Still has tons of power at 80mph [3.2mpg], just runs out of Rev's. Looking to fit an GV overdrive unit before the drive to lower the Rpm power range and increase the top end. The latest Nordic from PPE is cool and I figure their numbers are close, but that truck transmission is a bit large to be practical in a pleasure boat. Here is some footage of it, listen for the shifts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4ugzTL2y1U Cheers -K |
that mileage is incredible I wish I could come close to that with my boat!

Here's a shot of the boat going up Loch Lochy which is on the Caledonian Canal heading for Inverness http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...y/IMG_1212.jpg |
Cool picture. Love the mpg. Artie

Why do you think the ASD 6 would be faster? they are essentially the same drive -- with minor changes...
Do you have a notch in the transom or is it flat? |
Nice setup Cookee.
IMO, key to all these performance diesel boats is matching the absolute best drive setup you can afford to your diesel engines of choice. The torque produced is superb, often double the HP numbers and sometimes too much for the typical gasser designed drives. While RPM range is extremely limited. Having a 2 speed trans is a big help I bet, a most efficient use of those R's. Once your dialed in, all these new common rails are clean, crisp, fuel sipping power houses. Nothing like the old coal rollers of past decades. :nicethread: -K |

We took our 70mph race boat as pictured around Great Britain on a charity run in June to benefit Children's Hospices and we got around 1.5 litres per mile which equals 5.9 miles to the gallon, we run a pair of Yanmar BY 260's which are 3 litre diesels (based on the common rail BMW 3 litre block) through ZF gearboxes and Arneson 1721 drives - I'm sure we would see better performance with Arneson number 6 drives but that would mean more investment!

baja built some 38 with yanmar engines...they are rare in america, but there is a few in europe...we have to remember that a lot of boat owners dont care about going 100 mph in a boat...in my opinion, the marine diesel is not aimed at the 125 mph crowd, but more towards guys like me,that like to cruise at 45-50 mph, with a top-end in the high 60's...for guys like me,the technology is here NOW
