Here is the dyno sheet you posted on the Hustler thread, surely it's not making this much HP.
Do you run race fuel? How much boost? |
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
Loto shootout is a very short 1 mile usually in notperfect conditions. Its not totally how much hp as it is getting on plane quickly and accelerating very fast. last year with 1200hp in our 36 nortechcould only get to 152, but boat could top end at around 165. callan set record at 203 2 years ago and 200 yards past finish line they were at 209. bacardi hit 183 last year I believe in a piston boat which was unbelievable. you have to prop the boat perfectly to optimize your speed there, we were proped wrong last year. also most of the higher speeds are produced by engines being turned up in hp anyway they can so you really cant trust what hp they say the boat has.I believe a non race boat record is in the 160 range. anything over that would be incredible. will be very interesting this year alot of big power coming. and a couple of boats that are unlike anything built to date.

Will get to it as soon as possible. well eddie , maybe you should post that video , then maybe people won't think that all these claims didn't come from a cracker jack box. :) |

I apprieciate the compliment  and I do have to agree with you. The acceleration is phenominal with 1400 hp, and that is with race fuel, (It wouldn't be like you take take something out of context.) You were offered a ride many times, free of charge, I think it would be better if you just meet me at TMP, I promise to be good spokesperson. :D

Wiggler
The boat Nor-tech brought to LOTO seems to get faster by the day.I don't believe that the boat officially timed in at 152 and when I last talked to Trond the boat had not gone anywhere close to 165.On a seperate note I think Tmp should be congratulated for all of there hard work :drink: |
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
glad to see that tmp can paint their motors something other than green.

Re: Miami Show TMP1600
Feel free to speak with Ron Potter at Nortech who drove the boat when it was first complete at 162mph hitting the rev limiters. It needed more prop and we changed props to herings and added a pitch. We all saw the tattle tale when Terry brought it to loto. So believe what you want, also Call Terry and ask him what the boat officially ran on gps and tattle tale. Nortech's number is 239 567-5030. I dont understand why everyone on here is so defensive. also saw the gps on cyclone at 174 . I assume you dont buy that either. Were you at the shootout last year? . gatorone , which 05 36 do you own? what power?

Re: Miami Show TMP1600
wig , how many nor tech boats have you sold? where are you a dealer ?
|
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
Gator,
Thanks alot, Can't wait to hear how the boat does with the new engines. I'll be at NorTech next Mon. to finalize details on the canopy boat. Should be running by summer. |
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
Our dealership is based at lake of the ozarks, and surrounding states. we have sold 3 nortechs and am currently closing a deal on another 36 at the St. Louis show. we also have 2 new 39's coming in April and a new 36 cat. Have a 04 50v we just upgraded to nortech 850's that runs over 100mph with 6 people and full fuel. and the new 36 with Nortech 1150's. call me if your interested. Re: Miami Show TMP1600
I guess it comes down to credibility, which is earned, not stated. If you claim you have one of the highest HP, longest running engines on the market, you should expect to take a bunch of heat, THEN have the proof to back up your claims.
It might seem unfair to have to answer every question posted, but once again, when you make such a 'raised bar' claim, you have to expect it. 1) I know it is hard to 'trust' dyno numbers, but sometimes it's all we have. Did you make 1600 HP in any configuration at GT?. How about this 1800 number? Might be hard to invite skeptics if your shop is in Louisiana and you dyno in CA. 2) You 'dare' anyone to find negative post regarding your engines. Cyclone (engines) never failed? I ask this because I can't find any other of your BIG HP engines (1000+) in any other boat. 3) You could shut up a ton of this crap if you would state here and now, how many blown efi engines you have built and SOLD. 4) Found the old post with 174 MPH claim. 6300rpm - 1.24 gear - 35" props. The math does not work. All this will be moot if boats with your power start crushing at Poker Runs and other events. Word travels fast when you get beat. Any plans for events on the Chesapeake Bay? |

JC I'm sure Steve could probably be talked into bringing new boat to NYC and put all this negativity to bed. I'll come out for it, and I'll bet Jazz will come out. never been to new York would love to come there. |

We are planning to make the King of the Hudson, if that is the run that you are referring to. The Cyclone boat has been sold. It is being replaced by the canopy boat. We just completed a pair of 1200/1400 for a 43 Nortech, and are building another pair for another 36 Nortech. We just shipped a pair of single Whipple efi's to Utah that made 830hp at 5400 rpm and are starting a pair of 900 hp single Whipples for Jassman. We only build 40 or less motors a year so that I may keep my hands on each and every one. I do not have assemblers that work for me. I do all of the assembly myself so that I know it is right. This limits the amount of engines that are built in a year. We are striving for quality, not quantity. You guys are right. Only time will tell. If the boat doesn't perform then I'm sure everyone on here will know. We will make as many poker runs as possible. The problem is that we live so far away from all of the big runs up north. Unfortunately, this whole work thing seems to get in the way of play time. Some of you guys should try to make our big run, the Ticfaw 200 on May 7, I believe. It is the first Sat. in May. 200 mile run with probably over 300 entries. |

If there motors can do as they say, that they have just jumped past people like Sterling and KEPP plus others 4. That instead of posting all sorts of stuff about huge HP engines, they should have been bragging about their lower HP ones, that have great prices, and warranty. THEN after those are shown to be good, they can start jumping on their big HP bandwagon. 5. Expect the questions that you got when you start a thread on OSO called "TMP 1600" :drink: So far, I've been pretty impressed with the answers that "TMP racing" has posted to my questions. He has been calm, and professional. No offense, but some of the other posters need to calm down. When people protest too much, it makes it seem like they have something to hide. I guess we won't really know what these engines can do till the season gets going, because once the motors are in a boat and out running on the water, all the dyno numbers and HP claims won't mean anything unless the motors can back up the claims. TMP you started this thread I didn't. As far as Totalmp he needs to stick to customer relations, not posting tech stuff. Tmp racing should do all the tech talk I came on this site to help fellow boaters wade through the BS on this site, weather it be people or advise, and help answer tech questions with what I believe is correct. I'm not selling anything or looking for anyones respect, just facts. This is for all you potential TMP motor buyers. This doesn't pertain to your lower HP engines. If your customer is going to spent 85 to 90 grand on one or your 1600s, then it better have at least spreadport heads, because there's a minimum of 100 cfm on the table if you don't. I'm sorry the object of the game is to move more air and fuel through the motor. TMP is using inferior heads for the CI and potential HP output probably because it eats into profits. What happens is you have to use more blower output to achieve these high HP rating their talking about. In an endurance app. the engine with the least amount of blower speed to get their targeted HP the better. More blower speed =more heat plain and simple. As for the lifter stories it sounds like you guy's had some geom. issues your first go around which lead you to believe you needed better lifters. The reason I know this is because I also build RR motors for a living using a lot bigger cams than your talking about and I've used almost everyones lifter. The biggest baddest lifter out their are also heavy, and in endurance engines valvetrain parts must be as light as possible because they sustain high RPM for so long. I don't know what lifters you have but they sound heavy to me. As far as your computer selection if you noticed at the show Eickerts turbo motors had Accell DFI ecm's. Not what I would choose, but very good units. As far as engine mon. systems and sat. tuning most of your aftermarket ecms now have this. As far as low or high imp. injector cap. Motec ecm's can control anything. As far as followers you seem to have a few, and you can't get followers without doing or making what you say you will. If you do produce people will beat your door down and you won't have to post on here to generate business. I am still skeptical so if you wan't many oso peoples respect I would post more in the tech threads, because the tech threads make this site strong. |

ok, I cant not sit on this any longer. back in the day speedometers were water pressure and you could fudge them pretty easily, and now everyone thinks that gps is exact, truly gps is accurate but the ones they are using in some of these boats are not yes you read that right GPS CAN BE FUDGED.
Here is a pic of a gps speedo that shows 138mph, I can guarantee you that this boat has never been that speed, on water or on trailer. so I do not believe anyone on the speed there gps speedo shows. I have a handheld gps that I can get in vehicles and test and according to the 40-50 vehicles I have been in it is very accurate, but then I get in a boat with a gps speedo and they tell me that mine does not show as high because mine has lag, that is the biggest bunch of bull I have ever heard. I have had them as far off as 121 mph on there gps to 91 on mine. And that one I can guarantee you my gps was right because I have been 90 alot and 121 some and there is a big difference in those. |
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
when I was at the miami boat show I confronted gaffrig about the gps speedo problem and they said it could not happen and that it must have been a different brand of speedo but as the pic shows it was gaffrig. lying bunch of @#!$%@#$#@@$%^&@ers

Re: Miami Show TMP1600
Nobody, you are right, we are leaving some power on the table by not using the Pontiac heads. In our situation, they create more problems than they solve. They are hard on valvetrain components and the Indy manifold must be machined to accept the Whipple intercooler, since the water fittings come in through the front. I need the valvetrain to last for 100 hours. We are not trying to make max hp, just enough. I don't know if you are familiar with the Whipples, but they are a different animal then a roots. They are more efficient and do not generate the heat that a roots does. The intercooler does an excellent job of removing the heat. The 1400 has never seen over 130 degrees of intake air temp, even at 13 psi boost.

We do have a few followers on this site because we gave everything that they paid for. We will continue to do it for many years to come. Only time will prevent the skepticism. Hopefully we can have this conversation 10 years from now, and it may go a little differently.
I do answer some tech questions when I can. If anyone needs a quicker response, they can always reach me at the shop. |

These guys have done nothing but be upfront with anyone they have dealt with, if you doubt them, go down to see them, they have extended the invitation plenty of times. Bottom line...I havent seen any customers complain, only other engine builders. exactly. |
Re: Miami Show TMP1600
I think we should give the guys at TMP a break. They seem to be building a good product with happy customers. We all know we could use some more competition for Mercury to bring their prices down to earth.
Everyone has their own opinion on what works, doesn't work, etc... let's see what happens in the near future with their products. Jassman and Nor-tech are well respected her on OSO and are very happy with TMP. |
