Do you have any pics of the extension boxes trying to figure something out for my scarab

I took the boat out to Pickwick lake in northwest Alabama yesterday with some friends and ran with Kelly Cook and his cigarette 42 We had a great time and went provably 120 miles, a lot of it at high rpm’s. No problems. I made a little video with some of the footage.

Funny, when I bought my 1985 Scarab II, it had a sticker on the side that said "116 MPH V-bottom World Speed Record Holder". Then like 2 years later, I stickered over it with newer "121 MPH V-bottom World Speed Record Holder" I think Fountain finally blew Scarab's doors off and that was the end of that.
The point.... Heath has his boat 'almost' dialed in, and he's already past what was the World Record for that boat in days gone by!!! Great job Heath! Boat is gorgeous.

To reach 100 mph at WOT is most likely not something Heath will even entertain. Here's a quote by Richie Powers from back in the day, when he was part of Larry Smith's and Wellcraft's collaboration to set a new V-bottom World speed record. It was done in a Team Scarab 43'.

"Hi Nigel: Yes, that`s the 43` Scarab Tom G. and I set the Kilo record of 126+ mph, also the same boat I was hired to race for APBA worlds in Ft. Meyers, 1993. I was told I could pick my crew, so I picked Omar Danial from Apache Heritage to steer, and Norman Gentry was the Navigator. We had two run races to qualify her for the worlds, so we ran Corpus Christi and Sarasota. We won both against the new Fountain INXS with Tres Martin on the sticks. We were also supposed to run Miami, but it was cancelled due to rough seas, so that counted as the third qualifier for the worlds.

Originally, Wellcraft wanted us to race her in Key West, but we couldn`t because we had to defend our Championship in the Apache Heritage, which we won again, both in class and overall by almost six minutes.
After winning Key West, we drove to Ft. Meyers and a week later won the APBA world championship in Superboat V. We beat INXS and Reggie, who was driving Ohio Steele for Rehban.
Donnie Wadack, the crew chief from Wellcraft, is responsible for the boat winning.

When we set the Kilo record for the V-bottoms, we actually had the boat running over 135 mph. Long story as to why we didn`t have a faster average for the record. I have pictures of the boat running at 135 mph, and there is maybe only 2 to 3 feet of the boat in the water. It was one of the scariest rides I've ever been on. Incidentally, this was when we introduced Bob Herring to offshore boats. Tom had put him on retainer to build props only for us for the first 3 years. Anyway, Bob and I worked on the Merc. OPC team back in the late 1960s, and we won Havasu together in 1970. Bob is responsible for our speed records for sure, and those records, were before the dry sump drives. Bob is the one with us who came up with the swept back skegs, and thinned down gear cases, as well as the props and hydrodynamics. As they say the rest is history. When we started the Kilo attempt, our best speed was 110 to 115 mph. after two weeks of set-up and testing we were running 135 mph."

Thanks guys, I purchased some used 6 blade herring 17.25 diameter x 27 pitch x 16 rake, they are on the boat now, plan to run it tomorrow. I straightened about 3 minor bent edges and 1 decent sized one. They’re good enough to run. If they work out I’ll have them repaired. We’ll see.

Boat ran good today, saw 87 downwind and 85 upwind. Shon cleared the more impressive number off the speedo before I took a photo of it😆 This is the first time Brian has ridden in the boat. He was a big help on those cold winter nights years ago we’d be doing hours upon hours of rot removal and glass work knowing the goal was a long way off. It was cool to have the three amigos in the boat.
