our NHRA SS/IA "255" motor will show 109% VE on the dyno... granted we spin her almost 9K through the traps with shift points of 8600... 620 hp out of a 358 with STOCK cylinder head castings isn't...

split the drive. turn the shift shaft CW (when viewed from above) until it stops... and the prop catches when rotating CCW when viewed from rear. when putting the upper back on make sure the shift...

yep,

you can put an msd soft touch right in there without issue.. MSD makes two flavors.. one for MSD ignition and one for NON MSD ignition.. you want the NON version.. comes with wiring diagram...

very likely you may have a clearance issue.. either ring gap or piston to bore clearance.. Marine motors require a larger gap factor for the top rings due to the constant heavy load imposed on them...

i'd probably put my money on bearing preload and gear backlash... the tighter it is the hotter it'll run...

i'd track temps over a period and see if there is a trend of temperature lowering over...

everyone can correct me if i am wrong but i believe that TORCO MTF is spec'd by merc as the ONLY oil for use in the #6's...

anything else will run the RTF...
