Re: 32 footers

Mine has twin big blocks. Its a 2000. The engine compartment vents are really too low to the water. I asked Fountain to build me a new one with safer, seaworthy vents, and they refused. So I had a...

Re: Towing a 40ft boat

Dually: really a lot more stable and safer, for you and the others on the road.

Never think that a trailer has anything like the reliability of your truck. They are just waiting to break down.

Re: Removing the Vinyl Graphics ??

Nope, that just did not work. Razors and plastic scrapers got the chunks off. A bunch of different chemicals each got more off. Several different polishing compounds made things better and better.

Re: Removing the Vinyl Graphics ??

My boat is a 2000.

The vinyl on my boat was the name on the side. A total pain. Was on for 3 years, and the glue has still been on for another 2.

The factory graphics are all Imron. Still look...

Re: Removing the Vinyl Graphics ??

Its impossible to get that glue off. I've had mine rubbed out and polished 4 times by a very, very good pro, using all sorts of different products, and its still there. I will need to sand and paint...

Re: Dumb question-Flushing motors

Right -- I run the engines before messing with the oil.

Hey Downtown -- I like the paint on your new ride.

Re: Dumb question-Flushing motors

Not even sure why you need to start the motors. I can hear the water running through the heads and both manifolds even before starting. I've got two valves per engine: one directs the water from the...

Re: What makes a boat porpose?

Certainly my Fountain (single step 32) is sensitive to drive trim -- trim up and it porpoises in mid range speed. I generally need a fair amount of tabs down in the mid ranges to suppress porpoising....

Re: Duramax Marinization

Sounds very interesting. I hope you put out info as it becomes available here and on the other boards.

Are they going to be as low as a gas big block?

Re: Big Big Problems......need Advice!

New does not mean "no problems.".

I got a "great deal" on my boat because the factory mis-installed the engines, and the dealer never figured out the problem. The original owner got sick of...

Re: Triple conversion?

Yea, no kidding. Two engines are enough of a pain, three is a buzz kill.

Re: Wcmarine

I was thinking the same thing. My 32 has twin big blocks, and it seems like it is too heavy aft. In most ocean conditions, I need quite a lot of tabs, but that causes yaw and roll instabilities....

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Ray, there is no question that yours is a beautiful boat.

Thanks for the feedback on likes and dislikes. I have the same feeling, that in very many ways its really a good boat, with just a list...

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Its also too wide -- I am really, REALLY trying to stay under 8'6" so I don't need permits. The permits are cheap, but the limitations are a pain: can't trailer the weekend of, before, or after a...

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Yes, this could do it. Too bad its got three engines, but maybe ya can't get everything...

Also, this boat has been on the market for YEARS. Its hard to beat the desireability of a Fountain.

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Actually, it seems like it would be the boat for me with a few changes. True, as usually built, its not.

But the Pacific is a big place, and a big boat is what I need.

The 32 is too small to...

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Those of you who own a 47: what would you do to the boat to make it more useful? What do you hate about it? What is so-so? What is great?

Re: New 47 Lightning - what's new?

I am quite interested in buying a 47. I have a 32 sportfish cruiser now.

Maybe these things can be changed, but the things I do NOT like about the 47 are:

Interior:

The carpet, floor, and...

Re: DIESEL vs GAS?

I think that with the new gas prices diesels will soon be the only thing anyone wants.

In Europe, you will rarely see a gas powered boat. It its bigger than a dinghy, it almost certainly has a...

Re: How to afford the boat you want....

You know the saying "the two best days in the life of a boat owner are the day he buys it, and the day he sells it."

Well, that is only true if you buy the wrong boat! Which most people do.

The...

Re: single step - double step

Yes, Hydrocruiser, this uses the exact same formula. The constants are usually called Crouch constants, named after the guy who came up with the formula, who was also a very famous designer of gold...

New 47 Lightning - what's new?

Anyone have any inside scoop on what is new with the 47 Lightning?

I hear it has a new bottom. What changed?

Anything like another couple of inches of headroom?

Any good twin setups (triples...

Re: 47 Fountain Lightning Project

A couple more questions, Ray:

Have you weighed the boat as is?
Have you weighed the boat + trailer?
Is that a steel trailer?
Looks like you tow with the same truck I've got: F350 V10. Works OK?...

Hi Ray,

I have been following your project since your first posts. Great to read about your progress.

An early post you said it handled "differently." How do you like it now? Have you had it...
