I would run the 540's. In boats torque is king.
On pump gas should make close to 750/700 + na and probably close to 120 mph or better if the boat is not real heavy and check for excessive hook.

Probably, but irrelevant to me. I couldn't run the engines at 100% last year because of drive breakage. I'm more concerned with the hydrodynamics, handling.

I don't know. Where did you hear this? I know this drive is improved since it first came out and Merc puts it behind their 1750, and warranties it behind a 1350.
