Yes but no more than OB's - still a PIA.

One downside I see is the engines being in the boat at the transom so you'd have a large engine hatch to deal...

I don't race so most of my time on the water is at cruise speed and not at top end.
I'd be happy cruising at 50 getting 6 mpg...or even 3 mpg. That's better than 1 mpg @ 40 now.

There's a Cat in the bahama's running tours with Yanmar diesel/Surface drives. It didn't seam to matter how much they loaded it down with fat ass tourons the boat would still haul ass.

Interesting info DonziJapan. I know a guy who put a single old John Deere diesel in his 29. Wasn't real fast but he only burned 20 gallons of fuel running it for over 60 miles.
