In my opinion,1000 hours is getting close to rebuild on motor and drive which could run you on average $5-6k. So if you had to do that to the one for 7500 at least then you would know what you had...

only other thing i can think of is trim height, if you over trim you could loose speed and increase rpm and slip, try and get a cruise speed @ 3,000 rpm and see where you are.

Unless you have an extremely high x-dimension you shouldn't need a 4...

maybe rpm's are 4400 and not 5400? that would make ALOT more sense, slip would be around 13%, as Gimme Fuel said, you should be hitting a limiter around 5,100 and shouldn't be spinning a stock 454...
