Re: Stainless Steel hardware on a Cast Iron Block

Townsend Engineering.... I guess I should say Stork Townsend these days. I mainly work with our sausage co-extrusion (QX) machines. Who do you work for? I know we have a $hi% ton of skinners and...

Re: Stainless Steel hardware on a Cast Iron Block

Don't do it. I work for a meat processing OEM, and stainless fasteners suck. they will gall (get stuck) to anything, including stainless. They are also not as strong as a grade 5 or 8 bolt. ...

Re: HP gain vs MPH gain?

Problem is I haven't ran it on the water yet. I got the motor running, and had to adjust a valve. In doing so, I had to remove the riser (stock style) :( and must not of buttoned it up right...

Re: HP gain vs MPH gain?

Ahh, I forgot to divide by 1.46.

I sure hope 130 HP gives more than 5 mph. The other calculator you speak of is

http://go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm

It shows my new motor giving 51...

Re: HP gain vs MPH gain?

Square root is the inverse of x^2 (x^2 is "x squared")

Cube root is the inverse of x^3 (x^3 is "x cubed")

using the formula as stated, my 24' liberator will go from 42 mph at 270 horse to 70...

Re: Thunderbolt IV trigger voltage question

There is a little slop in the bushing, and 2 cap screws are busted off in the base.

I have spent enough on this d&mn thing that the pickup is tempting, but...

Thunderbolt IV trigger voltage question

What voltage should the Thunderbolt IV module supply the distributor? I am getting about 4 VDC, and the trigger is not switching when I turn it.

Found this out because I was getting no spark...

Holley Throttle Bracket?

Anyone know of a readily available throttle bracket that will work with a holley 750?

When I say readily available I mean at a local autoparts or racing store, I have the correct one on order,...

Re: 425-470hp Small Block??

Like you say (Ratman), I wouldn't use a forged one either for those power levels.

Put a BIG blower on it, nitrous, etc, then I would look at forged.

even then, I've seen stock 400 cranks with a...

Re: 425-470hp Small Block??

I've seen a few cracked....

Only one was cast.... the rest were forged.

None broken.

Re: changing sbc's from late to early style

Even if you have the correct "triangle" couplers, if there are signs of wear on the splines, replace them. Might as well do it while you have the motors off.

Oh yeah, make sure you get 14"...

Re: Chine walk question

Cord, Ditto to what Cobra said. That is the best explaination I've seen.

Makes me itch to get the ol' Hydrostream out and do some 'walkin   :evilb: :evilb: :evilb:

Re: Chine walk question

Chine walking can be 'controlled' to a point. On hipo outboards, they have hotfoot throttles and trim controls on the steering wheel for this very reason.

Takes practice at the higher limits of...

Re: 350 LX motor build question???

You might see those gains with a full roller rocker. Those gains quoted are usually high and also taken at very high RPMS, where the full roller rockers improved accuracy pays dividends.

Re: educate me on small block chevy flywheels and dampers

You can go the junkyard route with that, but I'd look at new one, or one you know is in good shape.

Re: educate me on small block chevy flywheels and dampers

Yessir. The bolt pattern is the same on all SBC flywheels. Check the splines on the coupler, if they look worn at all, I'd replace since you already have the motor out.

Re: educate me on small block chevy flywheels and dampers

Don't know part #'s, but you need a 14" 2 pc rear main style flywheel off a 350 or any SBC besides the 400. The 400 are not truly balanced, they have a counterweight for the 400 crank. There are...

Re: Q jet question, 454 750cfm on 350

Qjets are different beasts than other carbs. the primaries are tiny, which allow for good starting, idle, throttle response and economy. The secondaries are HUGE, and thats what gives them the high...

Re: Q jet question, 454 750cfm on 350

Re: Q jet question, 454 750cfm on 350

From my very limited experience with qjets, i think one setup for a 454 would actually be too lean for a 350. It can be made to work, of course by rejetting it, new metering rods, etc.

Re: K&N Flame Arrestor Elements

I've never seen a problem with them. Just about every race car on the planet runs them, and they are prone to backfiring because of the cams in them.

The oil actually protects the fibers from...
