84 Skater

A year ago there was a 1984 Skater that was repo'ed from Lake Cumberland. It went to Ohio then to Florida. It had C3 on the side. Does anyone know what happened to this boat?

It was many , many years ago I started a quest to own a skater . back then it was a 21 then a 24 on to 28 and never could afford to own one . Bought my 32 for 23 k without power ona very nice rust free trailer and in 08 that was a deal . Now I see a could have bought a 40 for around that number . As soon as this boat is done going shopping for a 40 without power ( never selling my 32 )

Nice starter boat Larry! It looks like you have amazing technical skills to make that beast better than new...I missed a nice 88 32 Classic on a trailer with new interior with a pair of 300x low hour motors for 36K last year..it sold the day before I was going to look at it and probably buy it!!! What a no brainer 2 300x worth 20K...trailer 3K...13K for a 32 hull...Oh well.... Al

Soundes like a good deal , plent more avail on the cheap . This is my first Skater , been boating for 30 years , my last race boat was this boat , a 24 BRT , 550 hp , Imco ext box ( 3 inch raise ) 2 inch shortie , 3 man seat . This boat ran through anywater and drove more like 28 + than a 24 . Ran 80 all day long on GPs with 550 Natural . Boat is now in Dallis area and can be seen on Lake Lewisville . My first race was with Toasty as co-pilot , that was a great time . I bought it as bare hull and everything you see I did including glassed in NACA scoops

Before the Brt I ran Checkmates , at the time I thought they were great ( how little did I know ) they werent built mush better than a Bayliner . Still always dreaming of a Skater of any size .

Anyone know of any deals lurking around that arent on ebay, trader or OSO?

waterboy222 03-01-2011 09:16 AM

Can someone chime in with an estimated weight of a 24 with 300 PM's on an aluminum trailer?

Ryan Beckley 03-01-2011 10:00 AM

boat with motors would be around 3800 + trailer

I dont know if you're only looking for a 24 Skater or not, but I have a 26' Cougar cat I'm going to sell soon... I'm not looking to get a lot of money for it. It needs a little work, but it's a cheap way to get in a solid cat with a nice deep tunnel. Will be selling on a trailer and with or w/o power (200 opti's). Send me a PM if you're interested.

B SKI 03-01-2011 12:10 PM

anyone see any good 24's for sale out there?

Any suggestions on an insurance company? I cant get anything done!

Ryan Beckley 03-02-2011 10:25 AM

I don't know of a company that will insure a 24'.

waterboy222 03-02-2011 10:35 AM

Im stuck.. Bank wont finance anything that cant be insured. How can anyone even own one? I mean, if it catches fire and burns a marina down, how is one supposed to cover that?

Ryan Beckley 03-02-2011 10:37 AM

most people pay cash for them..... and are not insured

The odds that you will burn down the entire marina are really slim, go ahead and roll the dice.

Tiki Joe 03-02-2011 12:54 PM

Why won't anyone insure a 24'?

Too fast, too short, too much horsepower, lol :coolcowboy:

Stacey at Wakezone insurance has a few carriers up her sleeve that can insure it and that would actually follow through if there were ever a claim!

waterboy222 03-14-2011 03:49 PM

FINALLY got the 24.. Spent a day running around the Gulf with a couple of buddies and had the TIME of OUR LIVES on it! Then the water turned snotty.. It was a very wet ride, doesnt take much of a gust of wind to get vertical and dramatic..

It was 25 hours down, 25 hours home.. One HELL of a trip..

On a side note, this is NOT a boat you'll learn to drive ina day..

QUOTE=Ryan Beckley;3340015]This one was S-99 Skater Express[/QUOTE]

This was the second 24' Skater Express,

The first Skater Express was an all white kevlar race pleasure hull with four 60 gallon tanks. It ran the Mississippi New Orleans to St. Louis race and did well before running out of fuel south of St. Louis. It was later rolled then repaired by Skater. I purchased from Glazer Marine and did a repaint and restore on it. Howard Arneson then blew the record for the Mississippi making the boat obsolete for the River run.

I was sold to a guy from Suriname who towed it to Miami the put it on a barge home.

Skater Express restored and at Key West and Lake X in 88 or 89
